Hey guys, I was wanting to get ur opinion on a good in-dash dvd player w/ screen. I have a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS and was wanting to put it in there. I just don't know what's good out there. Replies (7) UKinstaller on 06/20/2004 10:00:33 alpine is awesome, but is of course very very pricey. i have a friend that has had a panasonic unit that he got when in dash dvd/screen combos first came out, and the quality on his is awesome. pioneers are good, too. stay away from the bad brands such as pyle, boss, and others, for they offer stuff for far cheaper, but they tend to want to explode or malfunction, or just provide terrible quality. when you are buying something such as an in dash dvd, you will be glad you spent the extra money. if money were no issue, and it were me, however, i would get an eclipse. they are incredibly expensive, but good lord they have incredible quality and features. -UK swez on 06/20/2004 10:03:03 You can do a "Google" search and look for sites like "epinions" or "Sounddomain" for this type of DVD/monitor style HU's. Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Clarion, Sanyo, Panasonic and Blaupunkt. Look here for some details on common options and general pricing info. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-buNNIuJ3x3u/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?c=17&g=168550&s=0&cc=01&avf=N&search= =================================================== Here's a short guide to DVD players for mobile applications supplied by Crutchfield. They tend to give very good details and support for products they sell. Not the cheapest E-tailer in the game... but they do a great job getting you through the process with install info, patch cables, mounting hardware and the like. I was looking at either the 6500 or the 6600. swez on 06/20/2004 16:56:04 I am not a real fan of DVD's in the dash, but can tell you there are others here that have been bitten by that bug. The main things to consider are ease of operation, get only features you need or will use and make it stealthy... it hides away when not in use. Other than that, I would definitely trust the Pioneer and Alpine brands here. Swez audionewb on 06/20/2004 21:06:35 So all the new dvd players only let you watch dvd's when your parked, or is that just certain models? cplkittle on 06/20/2004 22:56:06 We sell and install only Concept screens, DVD players and indash combos. They, by the law depending on your state, have to be hooked up a certain way. We always connect them so that a dvd can not be viewed unless the car is in park and on some models, the parking brake applied. However we always show the customer if they ask how to defeat this. It is as simple as connecting either a positive or negative (depending on the unit) lead to the sensor wire that tells the player the car is in park. The concept brand carries a 4 year warranty if installed by an authorized dealer. audionewb on 06/21/2004 19:49:17 How can you tell whether it's positive or negative lead that you need. Aliso by positive or negative lead do you mean a positive or negative voltage? Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
