a friend of mine just got a old HU and i just wanted to ask how do u tell if the pre-amp output are blown ? Replies (1) Swez on 05/27/2003 20:13:25 If you bench test it, just hook up an old battery to Power, Constant and Ground. Then drop in a tape or CD (if FM, need an antenna and ground) and connect RCA wires to the input of an audio device that had RCA preamp inputs... like an old home stereo or mini player and see if you get any signal from the HU. You can also measure the AC voltage (Multimeter) between the tip and claw of the male RCA jacks. If you get anything over 1.0 volts, it might work OK.
