Civic install-Spoke to soon

Although everything did go together very well there does appear to be a problem. The subs are overpowering the rest of the system and we can't seem to trim it down enough. Just to remind you all we have a Audiobahn A4004T four channel amp (50W@ 4ohn) driving the front and deck speakers and just installed a Audiobahn A8000T (400W@ 4ohm, 800W@ 2ohm) driving (2) Infinity12.1 12" subs (4 ohm) wired in parrallel for a 2 ohm load. We knew this would be a bucket full of bass but figured we'd be able to balance things.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

turn down the gain?

ttocs,
Thanks, that seems so obvious and that is what he has done and now he's happy with it. I guess I was getting confused again. The amps have a pot on them marked "level" and I had understood that this is primarily to match the voltage output from the HU so I had the two amps set the same. It's kind of a very coarse setting but I tried to get them to the same point figuring that was what you are suppose to do. We then tried to do the trimming with the HU's sub cut/gain settings and we had those turned all the way down.

Anyway he seems to be happy with it now so we'll see. Thanks for not adding the "dummy" to the end of your advice.

The best way to balance interior speakers with subs, is to shut off the sub amp, dial in the interior amp gains, EQ and HU outputs for the interior (full range system).

Once these is clean, no distortion and full sounding mids/highs, then add bass via the sub amp gain input control(s). Looking for balance here if SQ is the goal. If SPL Bass is the goal... whatever he can get from the amp/subs is the target.

Here are 2 FAQ's on how to do the setup process:

1. Tweaking the bass engine

2. Clipping audio signal issues

Uhmmm, no such thing as "dumb" questions on this site... if you need info, just ask and see what comes back. It's OK to be ignorant (not aware of the situation) on these subjects. We are here to provide knowledge to dispell ignorance and/or mis-information. (rampent on some web sites too) Oh, yes there is one dumb question we need not respond to... "HOW HIGH IS UP"?

"Stupidity" is when we get the proper information, but we "IGNORE THAT" and do not follow experienced advice. Just asking for trouble this way. I've done a lot of stupid things in my days... but did learn from them too. (if you only knew...)

Job well done for a rookie installer there Buffalo. Glad to hear of your success on the install process with Buffalo Jr. CLAP

Actually I tried to donate from here yesterday (office) but couldn't remember my paypal password. I've got that at home and there will definately be a little something coming your way.

Thanks for all the help,

The donations go to site operations and costs. The Golds don't get any compensation from our activity on the site.

With all the in depth time some of us are putting in of late... it sure would be nice to get a stipend though. But, we serve regardless of that. As long as the members ans newbies get what they need... that's the main goal of this site.

Swez,
I figured that was the way it worked. I was using the collective "your." Have a great weekend.

Steve,

Glad it all worked out so well for you and son. Glad to help out and come back anytime you are ready to update your own ride sound system if you so choose.

Been a pleasure working with you!
