"Rare" brands

Boston Acoustics, Memphis Audio... does anyone know if their products are any good? I'd like to hear everyones opinions on both of them, or maybe other brands that are "rare"... or at least unknown to me.

I had a set of computer speakers made by BA before, they were pretty good for what I payed for them, but not very good overall.

both are good brands. both in the top 20 if you ask me. Some more brands you might not have heard of that are top of the line are :
Macintosh
Harmon Kardon
Zapco
Dennon
Diamond

Do a few searches for custom installs and competition car audio and you will begin to see more and more of these products.

Are you looking for amps, speakers, subs or signal processors here?

Actually, BA and Memphis make some of the best audio gear in the game. The cost is generally pretty high on the best products in their lines. But even the lower ends of their lines are high quality.

Speakers:

Focal, Diamond, Dynaudio, Dynavox, Crystal and Vifa are all high end speaker makers.

I've heard of Diamond, because they used to make sound cards for computers, and Harmon Kardon, because my father used to make high-end guitar amplifiers, cabs, etc... and HK are bound to be heard of some time.

I like Boston and Memphis... I considered them rare because they're not the most "popular" of the car audio brands. I'd love to use some Boston subs, or speakers in my current car, but I don't know where to find them for less than the MSRP.

Anything can be found on ebay. I run Boston pro 6.4s up front and a single 10.4 sub (sub was $75 on ebay). High quality speakers that can take plenty of power. Titanium tweeters can be a little too bright for my tastes at times, but the midrange is heavenly. I love BA subs for their SQ and tiny enclosure requirements. All the manufacturers mentioned above produce great products and I'll add MB Quart to the list. I think most upper level loudspeakers are very close in overall performance, some do things better than others. HTH
