Which do you all think would be the best set-up for my 93' Probe?Using one of these amp's:1.)Audiobahn(A1500HCT)2000Wx1@1ohm 2.)Alphasonik(PMA-800D)1600Wx1@1ohm 3.)Audiobahn(A18001DT)1800Wx1@1ohm 4.)Alphasonik(PMA-1000D)2000Wx1@1ohm 5.)LANZAR OPTI-2000D(NEW 2004 MODEL!!!)1650Wx1@1ohm & 2000Wx1@.5ohm
I know like & use 1ohm stable amp's.Because,most of the time I buy dual 4ohm subwoofers!And wire them each at 2ohms.When it's just 2 sub's tho! THINK

Both are better than average SPL subs and are very power hungry as well.

RF stage 3 is a 2+2 DVC, rated at 500 watts RMS/sub. By wiring each RF sub in series (4 ohms) then all in parallel to amp, you get a 1 ohm load. Also, the notes on this sub indicate a foam surround. Most newer subs use butyl or santoprene rubber surrounds as they resist heat and sun damage so much better than foam. Foam surrounds of old, usually breakdown or disintegrate after a few years of heat and sun.

Kicker L7's (Solo-Barics) are a potent sub in a large ported enclosure. They have very large square cones, massive motor systems and take about 750 RMS each. The L7 comes in 4+4 and 2+2 DVC coil configurations. To get the most from these power hungry subs, a large ported enclosure (2.75 - 3.25 cf/sub) nets the best low end bass at high SPL levels. Amp wise, looking at 1500 watts RMS in to 0.5 or 1.0 ohm loads to get them to full potential.

Have you ever heard of Adire Brahmas? A very potent SQ/SPL sub. Can go sealed or ported, but these work well in much smaller enclosures. Not cheap... but they come in 2+2 DVC's, will do very well at +1000 RMS per sub in small sealed/ported enclosures.

This sub has a very large X-max (excursion) range and can really move some air. They also go very low into deep bass range below 30 Hz. Read the specs and notes below. They are from Adire's web site.

*** "The Brahma Series are our high end mobile audio subwoofers optimized for extreme SPL and sound quality installations. They feature a common, XBL2™ enabled motor with 29mm of linear one way stroke, dual 3" diameter 2 Ohm voice coils, cast baskets, high compliance foam surround, treated paper pulp cone. Single progressive roll spider. The Brahma 12 has a bandwidth from 18 Hz to 2 kHz. Fs of 28 Hz, Qms 5.1, Qes .47, Qts 0.43, Re 1.3 Ohms per voice coil, Vas 38L, Sd 436 cm2, 1600W RMS. MSRP $379 each".

Yeah apair of 12"Brahma's will hurt something! What amp can I use to power apair of the 12"s?

The Brahma's can be wired in so many different way's!

I know a guy running apair of the 10"s of a Hifonics Brutus 1000D

Although the Brahma series is rated thermally at 1600 RMS per sub, it can reach X-max (max excursions) well before that input power is applied. Depends on frequency and the enclosure you choose, when X-max is reached. Even in smaller sealed enclosures of ~1.0 cf, X-Max can be reached with less that 1000 watts RMS. (depends on how low a frequency you feed the sub)

Amps... a single Class D/T amp, 1000-1500 watts @ 2 ohms will net plenty of bass and still have loads of power in reserve for clean bass transients. Audiobahn, HiFonics, Alphasonics, JBL, Kicker and several others will meet that bill of performance.

THINK Remember, a 160A ALT and larger CCA rated BAT is a step in the right direction. A sub amp of this power rating will draw between 90- 120 amperes of current. That leaves 40-70A for car functions and perhaps a decent 4 channel amp. Most vehicles need a minimum of 40A. to operate most essential functions properly.

Sonically speaking, there is minor differences in SPL output in amps that put out 1000 vs 1500 watts RMS power to subs. We're talking about
1.8dB more SPL... but a major increase in current draw here. As ttocs mentioned, a single 12,15" sub with say 1000 - 1500 watts RMS will be a major Bass Machine in your vehicle style.

Here's a "guestimate" of SPL you could expect using 1 or 2, 12/15" Brahmas:

Single 12" Brahma; Ref Eff: 84.5
a. 1000 watts RMS ~ 139.5 dB SPL (sealed enclosure, 0.75 -1.0 cf)
b. 1500 watts RMS 141.3 dB.

2. Pair of 12" Brahma; Ref Eff: 84.5
a. 1000 watts RMS ~ 142.5 dB SPL (sealed enclosure x 2)
b. 1500 watts RMS 144.3 dB

3. Single 15" Brahma; Ref Eff: 87.6
a. 1000 watts RMS ~ 142.6 dB SPL (sealed enclosure, 1.75 -2.5 cf)
b. 1500 watts RMS 144.4 dB.

4. Pair of 15" Brahmas; Ref Eff: 87.6
a. 1000 watts RMS ~ 145.6 dB SPL (sealed enclosure x2)
b. 1500 watts RMS 147.4 dB
===================================================

This assumes a hatchback design (as Probe is), a cabin gain factor of roughly +25 dB and power gain factors of ~+30 dB

Note: If you went to a ported enclosure plan, add about +3dB to each number noted above. A subsonic filter would be highly recommended in ported application. The SS filter will need to block out bass below tuning port frequency. The higher the filter slope, the better. (18 - 24 dB filtering is a good choice)

Brahma's will be going into a S.U.V. now!!

Even better as there is more space for your subs and addiotional transfer function in a larger SUV too. That means better low end bass SPL with even a modest amp.
