Yes,I've got A 93'Probe.I'am perparing to do a install with my lil brother. We've already done his 2001 Kia Sephia. We installed a 2000Watt Audiobahn(A1500HCT)amp,Alpine(CDA-7878)headunit,apair of cadence 6 1/2"components,apair of cadence 5x7's in the reardeck, four 12"Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 1 sub's,and a 2-channel audiobahn amp running the highs & mids @2ohms.Okay,finally to my car.I'am wanting to install a Alpine(CDA-9835) or a Pioneer Premier(DEH-P860MP) or a Alpine(CDA-9833),apair of Pioneer (TS-A6880R)6x8's in my rear side panels,For my sub's:four 12"Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 3's in a sealed box(1.25cu.ft./per sub),For my subwoofer amplifier:1.)Audiobahn(A1500HCT) or 2.)Alphasonik(PMA-800D)1600Wx1@1ohm or 3.)Audiobahn(A18001DT)1800Wx1@1ohm or 4.)Alphasonik(PMA-1000D)2000Wx1@1ohm ,highs & mids amp(undecided),For my front door components:(6 1/2")1.)CDT CL61A or 2.)Kenwood Excelon(KFC-XR61p) or 3.)Crystal Can I get any suggestion's or advise on how to make this install be a very good and effective system. We'll be dampening with secondskin damplifier & Fatmat(I plan to use the combination of the two).Oh,and this is intened to be a daily/comp set-up! Replies (9) uochronos on 06/11/2004 13:49:41 defiantly going to need to upgrade ytour alternator. i had a '93 probe GT with only a 500watt phoenix gold tantrum series amp fused at 60amps and it would dim the lights at high volumes. and my batery was already upgraded to a 800cca optima battery. with a system as extensive as this the electrical upgrade should come first so you dont get it all installed and cant use it... as for this set up this is going to be one hell of a loud car i'm assumeing your going for SPL if so this should be extremly loud. i had 2 10" subs in my probe in a sealed box runing off 500watts and at high volume it was almost painfull. also if you havent installed the rear speakers before get the chilton or hayes manula or find a diagram of how it comes apart its alot of work. almost the entire rear paneling all the way to the back of the hatch has to come off to get to the speakern (Fords idea of a joke i guiess)..... swez on 06/11/2004 22:42:31 Also, I believe the Probe may have a JBL amped speaker system here. Best to bypass it all and use aftermarket speakers, amps and HU as noted. (as John Daily often says..."Grip it and Rip it") Check out your ALT power capacity. Some Probes have Nippon-Denso HO ALTs (90-120A) that really put out. A quick trip to Auto Zone to test both ALT & BAT performance, will give you a good baseline to start with. This is a small ALT package... but a potent one at that. The stock ALT is large enough to run your full range amp(s). But more juice will be needed to feed any of those monster sub amps. With all the sub amping power mentioned, probably need a HO ALT (Stinger or Ohio Generator) that can deliver +200A's of current. A huge battery will also be needed... if not multiple batteries for the sub amp(s). This is such a tight package under the hood, adding a 2nd ALT may work best for your sub amp(s) and extra batteries... but very tight spaces to deal with, under the hood. Finally, just a polite suggestion... Next post you make, try to break up your topics into sub groups and paragraphs. Very hard to read the first one as it looks like one giant run on sentence. I get MEGO (My Eyes Glaze Over) when reading posts like that. The items 1,2 & 3 list was a good idea.... consider this next time posting OK? =================================================== "Okay, finally to my car.I'am wanting to install": HU's to consider: a. Alpine(CDA-9835) or b. Pioneer Premier(DEH-P860MP) or c. Alpine(CDA-9833) Speakers & Subs: a. Pioneer (TS-A6880R) 6x8's in my rear side panels b. Subs; four x 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 3's in a sealed box(1.25cu.ft./per sub) Question: Why not use 2 x 12's RF Stage 3's, ported? Same SPL, (as 4 subs) less cost and less amping power to run them to target SPL #'s. Yes, a larger box is required per ported subs. But you'll save a ton of $$$ on amp cost, sub costs, weight and current draw and battery power to feed it all. Will have to review these sub specs to give more specific recommendations. Subwoofer amplifiers: 1.) Audiobahn(A1500HCT) or 2.) Alphasonik(PMA-800D)1600Wx1@1ohm or 3.) Audiobahn(A18001DT)1800Wx1@1ohm or 4.) Alphasonik(PMA-1000D)2000Wx1@1ohm Highs & mids amps (undecided) Front door components: 1.) CDT CL61A or 2.) Kenwood Excelon(KFC-XR61p) or 3.) Crystal (which model(s)? See how much easier that is to read? =================================================== Hey.. I'm an old fart and my glasses are due for a change soon. Please don't make this old fart work harder than he already does, to support this forum. SMILE Thanks for your anticipated cooperation and welcome to CK... we have some good folks to help you on this site. (and 2 cranky old farts... I'm one of them)... hehe The other one has not checked in yet. Swez PS Sounds like a pretty potent system in the making. Nice choices on gear as well. ttocs on 06/12/2004 10:22:42 ford uses jbl. I was just looking over everything so I probably missed a bunch. You will need to bypass the jbl system if there is one in there. The only way to tell is to pull the deck and see what the hrns looks like. Standard ford used two large rectangular hrns the jbl used a small square one and a rectangular... uochronos on 06/12/2004 15:31:16 if it has the premium system it should haev the stock EQ right below the HU shouldnt it? becuase thats what my get had and it was simple enough to by pass because for some reason for made it all very simple to get to in that car. does stinger make a 200amp alt for the probes swez? the largest i could find was a special order and was only 180 i believe just because it is a tight fit and they cant make it much larger then stock inphysical dimensions. this was almost 2 years ago i was looking for one though. but i did a pretty thorough search for one at least i thought. ttocs on 06/12/2004 15:41:06 it may or may not have the eq to be premium... swez on 06/12/2004 21:20:06 Chronos, Stinger or Ohio Gen do make many variations and not all vehicles are good candidates for off the shelf ALT upgrades due to space issues. If you can afford the price, a custom design and install is possible... but NOT CHEAP. I did gave him a few ideas on just 1 amp and 2 subs in a later post that would not require a huge custom ALT upgrade. As you already know, there are several ways to get high SPL: 1. Huge amps, many subs (big current hogs right?) 2. One larger amp, Class D or T, and 2 very efficient subs, ported We know there is a +3db difference in SPL from an amp/sub combo if we just double the input watts to the subs yes? A 1000 watt (RMS) amp and 2 subs in a "sealed enclosure" will net high 140's to low 150's dB. For a number... lets say 147dB of SPL. Now, use a 2000 watt amp for the same 2 subs and we get +3dB more SPL. (now ~150 dB of SPL) That 1000 watt amp will pull ~80 amperes of current if Class D and ~ 90% efficiency. (Assume 13.5 volts from electricals) Now, that 2000 watt amp will pull ~160 amperes to feed that amp... but only +3dB more SPL. (150dB) The other way to get the SPL up... go with a ported enclosure and 1000 watt amp. When properly tuned, we can get +150 dB that way too. Go to a properly designed bandpass enclosure, and that same amp/sub combo... can get mid-150's+ dB right? More than one way to build an SPL machine huh? Finally, if we use high efficiency subwoofers... (Pro Audio Subs) which often have efficiency numbers above 92dB of SPL @ 1w/1m... now you can get a lot of thump from one potent amp. The enclosures are generally larger. But the SPL, power handling and frequency range are excellent and very rugged designs too. A typical Pro Sub will cost $350 - 400 each. But they are built like Mack Trucks to take the abuse. Swez Bassmafia on 06/12/2004 23:24:24 My probe has no jbl premier stereo. And I think that I will do two 12's.Instead of four. Most likely two 12"L7's or two 12" Idmax's or two 12" Adire audio Brahma's or two 12" RE XXX's!With a 1,500-2,000Watt amp Oh,yeah the ho/alt that I'am buying is a 160-amp alt. from www.excessiveamperage.com Nate,is suppose to be a very good alt. builder. ttocs on 06/13/2004 09:37:00 man in a hatch like that you would be amazed how much sound you can get out of a single 12..... 2 are just really loud........ With a single 12 you could keep the stock alt, maybe put a little extra cash into the show or display of the system. Bassmafia on 06/14/2004 18:27:56 Going to buy,one of these now!! 1.)96'Isuzu Rodeo LS 4x4 2.)94'Nissan Pathfinder XE 4x4 3.)94'Honda Passport 4x4 4.)94'Ford Explorer Limited 4x4 5.)96'Chevy S-10 Blazer LS 4x4 Most likely to buy the Rodeo or the Pathfinder!!
