Hey guys, does anyone have any info on where I could get just a chassis to hold a 3.5" standard IDE hard drive in the dash to avoid buying a very expensive unit with a pathetic sized (in MB terms) drive in it? I have about 80GB of music and would love to have an in-dash unit I could just put one of my drives into. GRIN thanks, Chuck USFLAG Replies (2) uochronos on 06/10/2004 20:28:15 this would be easy to mount really the problem here is that any jaring or precution to a computer hard drive such as a good bump in the road or a pot hole well cuase the arm that reads the disk to guage into the disk itself cuaseing damage that is why the portable hard drive mp3 players break when droped or accidently hit. the arm that reads the disk is only a fraction of a inch from the drive almost touching realy. as far as if you wish to do this get a mounting bracket from a computer and use this to mount in below the bracketing that holds your stereo in your car. thats how i would do it anyway. the bracket that holds it in the computer usualy has several differnt mounting brackets yuou can buy for it from a computer shop. swez on 06/11/2004 10:20:32 Seems to me, an isolation/vibration dampening system would help solve reader head crashes onto the HD storage discs. Sponge foam, bubble packing material or suspending carriage in a low-medium viscosity fluid or gel, may work well here. The trick with a liquid/gel... keep it isolated from the electricals in a water tight bag or container. The HD unit could be completely encased in this type of container and protected from excess "G" forces in X,Y & Z axis points. The material must not freeze in cold temperatures, absorb excess heat, not sweat in humid conditions and remain at a stable viscosity in all normal temperature ranges. I wonder how petroleum jelly would work out? Comments? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
