Hi everyone I know I have been on here lately asking questions about which sub is better etc. I thought that I was going to decide on a 12" Alpine Type R for $260 (CND) but then tonight I found a 12" Phoenix Gold TantrumX sub for $199 (CND). The PG has 50 more watts rms then the Alpine, would that be a noticable difference? Also I already have a box that is 1cuft and the Alpine is better suited for that size enclosure. So my question, is the TypeR worth $60 more? Oh yah the amp I will be using is a JBL BP300.1 Thanks for the guidence, and sorry for the hassle this is my last sub comparison sub question from me. Jay Replies (2) uochronos on 06/10/2004 02:59:18 both are very nice subs you well be pleased with either if money is a concern go with phoenix gold however it well not be noticably louder. infact its a bit less efficcient sub. i had dual 10" alpine R's and they where louder then my friends phoenixgold tantrum 12" subs. with the same power to them. however 60$ less and its still a great sub. they are both good mix of spl and sq, if your aboud getting the most for your money you well be pleased with the Phoenix gold sub if your about getting every last ounce of performance then i think the type R well be your best bet. swez on 06/10/2004 19:51:14 This one? http://www.thezeb.com/detail.aspx?ID=2992 ($99.99) USD. Am having trouble finding enclosure specs for this sub as it is about 2-3 years old. Can you check the enclosure specs from the seller on this sub. My guess, it is 1.0 cf sealed is a bit too small for good SQ. Fine for compact SPL sub applications. Did some calulations and it appears that this sub will do "fair" in a 1.0 cf enclosure sealed. 1. Specs for Tantrum X Subs: Manual in .pdf format ftp://208.187.38.55/Phoenix_Gold/Manuals/Speakers/tantrumX/woofer/ Finally.... got the specs and much detail on this sub from "Manuals" link off PG site above. Looks like this sub will work in a 1.0 cf sealed (compact SPL design) enclosure, but the optimal SQ enclosure range is 1.45 -2.1 cf sealed/sub. Also, the extra 50 watts power handling means nothing here, unless you have a more potent amp. The TantrumX-12d (4+4) DVC is the one you'll want if you go this route. However, I'd hate to see you buy this sub, then have to get a larger enclosure to make this sub sound best. In short, unless you REALLY like punchy bass and mimimal deep lows, this sub will not be your best choice in a 1.0 cf box. Also, the amp is probably a bit light on RMS power to really get the most from this sub. A 400-600 RMS amp would be a better choice. This sub is low efficiency. (87dB SPL @1w/1m) Kinda power hungry. If it were my call and I had the amp and a 1.0 cf box already, I'd go shopping for a lower price on the Alpine SWR-1241d or SWS-1241d. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
