I just bought a car (1977 Olds 88) from an old guy. It has a Kenwood KDC7009 CD player in it. Whoever installed it wired the two factory dash speakers to one out on the haed unit. You have to fade all to the front and balance all to the left for it to work. Will this have done any damage to the player? Also, how do I remove the player from the dash. It looks like it has a black plastic spacer around the outside, but it doesn't seem like it was made to pull off. Do I need to take the bottom of the dash panel off to get access to the speaker out wires? Thanks for your time. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this kind of thing, but the stereo shop wanted $120 to install four speakers that are only worth $200, so I thought I'd try it myself. The head unit is seeing a 2 ohm load, to one channel. That is not a good thing. You should correct it when you can. And that "black plastic spacer" is just a mask to cover up the edges of the cdplayer. It will just pull off, but be gentile :). Or before you pull it off, I may have been thinking of it wrong. You probably have a plastic plate that goes around the cd player which basically is to cover up the hole around it. You will have to take apart the dash to find the screws for it. It also all depends on the car on how you take out the cd player. You will probably have to take your dash apart. ttocs on 05/26/2003 18:15:47 it should not have hurt anything. IT would either play or not play at all... The spacer just pulls off, although the cig lighter can catch on the dash. Once it is off there are generally 4, 7mm (9/32") screws that hold the kit in. $120 for 4 speakers in that car? They do not come much easier. the rears are held in by a coat hanger, the fronts I think come out with two screws....... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
