Am sure our resident installers have done a few of these. What do you want to achieve when you are finished with this project...

DETAILS PLEASE!!! If we do not know what game you are shooting at, we don't know what weapons to suggest. Please explain your initial plan.

I have yet to do one in an 03. I put a small system in a 2000 a few years ago and we had a big problem with noise. he wanted to keep the factory deck(can't blame him, it looked nice in the dash) and we always had a little bit of noise. The deck is a pain to get out, watch out for the screw behind the clock.

well all i want to do is add a dual 2 ohm alpine type R sub because I dont want too much bass where i wouldnt be able to hear the songs. I figured one is good enough. I want to add that to factory deck because i like the deck that is in the 03 accord and the kits are expensive for that car the metra kit is $180. I just want to install it so that it has the least possible distortion with the factory deck. I was lookin at the convertes from pac the sni35 because i heard those are decent but someone told me for some reason it might not fit for my car?? so i just want to get the info straight before i start the install and i have no idea how to remove the headunit for this car I removed one on a toyota before but this one looks much much different.

oh yeah sorry i forgot to mention the amp i have it is the fostgate 1001bd which runs 500watts at 4 ohms. I asked some other people if that would blow the sub but they said it would be ok as long as i keep the gains low and dont be stupid and turn the volume really high.

swez on 06/8/2004 22:53:57
Are you sure on that sub/amp combo? The RF amp noted, draws >125A. at full power. This will require MAJOR ELECTICAL UPGRADES to your vehicle to handle that much current draw.

Consider a smaller amp... Class D, 250-300 watts RMS is plenty for an Alpine Type S or R series DVC sub, Use the 4+4 version DVC, wired for a 2 ohm net load and that will be more than enough to fill your car with bass, using stock HU and speakers.

Some suggestions:

1. SWR-1241D Type-R Series Subwoofer (4+4 DVC)
Dual 4-ohm voice coils, Kevlar™ reinforced pulp cone, Santoprene rubber surround, 100-300 watts RMS power range, 24-1,000 Hz frequency response.

2. SWR-1041D Type-R Series Subwoofer (4+4 DVC)
Dual 4-ohm voice coils, Kevlar® reinforced pulp cone, rubber surround, 100-300W RMS total power range, 28-1,000 Hz frequency response.

Alll the amps noted above are plenty of power for the 10 or 12" sub noted above. The best value is the USB-600D. (Nice little amp)

Now, since you wish to keep your stock factory HU, can use a Line Out Converter of the HU rear channels to feed the sub amp. One of the better ones I have run across is made by D. Navone. This changes speaker voltage levels to RCA reference levels for you sub amp. They also have isolation line transformers to eliminate noise and improve signal to noise ratios.

where do you get this stuff?????

don't get me wrong keep up the good work but......

letsc on 06/9/2004 17:37:41
unfortunately since i thought i was going with this setup i already got the 2 ohm dvc. What kind of wiring upgrades would i have to do?? also how about the RF 501 bd which has 250watts rms at 4 ohms? The last question I have is how do i install the line out converter that you have recommended? thanks for your help

swez on 06/10/2004 12:12:38
Better to go with a 2 channel design if you really want an RF amp. Just bridge the amp to MONO and wire the DVC for a 4 ohm load. This will work fine and cost a bit less as well.

Here are specs, price and source for the RF 301S, 2 channel RF amp. This will do the job if you really desire a Rockford amp:

1. Rockford Fosgate 301S $139.00
This is RF's answer to the George Foreman cooking grill

As for the details on how to use the Navone N-85-V LOC, I have written to them via e-mail and asked how to best use their products and specialty devices. When I get that answer, will post it here on the main board for all to review.

Uhmmm... I just make all this stuff up... off the top on my head. It's all BS! Many may find it useful in their shopping for quality gear, parts and prices. LOL

Just kidding... but yes, I have a wry sense of humor too at times. I mainly try to give people news they can use in some detail too. After being on this board so long, (almost 4 years now bud) one gets a pretty good lesson on searching out details in many ways. The Net is so a potent research tool huh?

I guess I just have too much time on my hands at the moment and choose to help other here with that time.

it is my 4 yr anniversary at work next month so it will be close to my 4yr anniversary here as well.. It was not long after taking this job that I had to find a way to fill my freetime.........

But no seriously, if you were not here to do that there would be nobody else with the patients for all that. Keep it up mang!

swez on 06/10/2004 16:29:16
Gee... I'm speechless there Ttocs... Thanks!

But yeah, we both came on board here about the same time as I recall... can you believe it? Four years this August for the Swez-meister and same for the Bike-man. (ttocs) Gone by fast huh?

You say patience... I'd call it passion. When we really enjoys what we do (at no cost or fees) and others benefit from it in some small or big way... that's a passion for something we love to do. The real plus is, have learned a lot from others here as well.

I sure have learned a few tips and tricks from you and a few others here and at CAK, my friend. I guess that's why I miss (my first mentor to Car Audio) Mr. B. so much. We were like 2 pickles in barrel of fun. We both had the passion for this kind on stuff, chatted for hours on the phone and swapped all kinds of war stories about work and such.

God... how I miss that guy. He was one in a zillion. Wish I knew what happened to him. Last I heard from Mr. B., was April 7, 2002. He called me that day, left a message that sounded pretty urgent and when I tried to get back to him... poof... no luck ever since that day. Anyway, pardon my digressions for a moment.

However, I do want to say that I am certainly glad you (ttocs) are on the scene. I'd be lost on some of the HU install details you know so well. Would not have a clue on how to disect issues on OEM Bose, Infinity or JBL amped system without your skilled hand on that tiller.

Thanks to you, I can hit the cruise control button and watch as you go through the checklists. Admittedly, when these topics come in, I prefer to let you skill it out for them. Until I get one in my hands to play with... it's only minor head knowledge. Sometimes, things are better left to the Pros huh? Keep up the good stuff Mang!

I don't mind dealing with people on here as I can do it at my descretion, but the customers come in and want you to work and any given moment! HUH!!!

"I try to keep myself away from the sales floor and having to deal with the customers and prod questions...... I don't mind dealing with people on here as I can do it at my descretion, but the customers come in and want you to work and any given moment! HUH!!! "

Yep... I hear that! It just goes to show how people have different preferences, skill sets and ways of dealing with life in general. Some folks are very good at working with things... objects, devices and prefer to do it alone whenever possible. (Engineers, designers, installers, computer programers and mechanics) Detail and process minded folks...

Others are more people/relationship/service oriented. They thrive on communication, collaboration, the challenges to persuade, educate, teach or train etc. These are often Sales types, politicians, actors, advocates or people in some form of Ministry. (Pastors, Preachers and Evangelists) Big picture folks....

It's interesting to observe people while they do what comes natural to them huh? I really enjoy watching a masterful hand that knows how to build something from scratch and a few seemingly loose ideas. (Norm Abramson, MASTER Carpenter for example) This man is amazing at building things and does an superb job, teaching as he works on a given project. I'll bet he'd do this kind of work, even it never paid a dime.

Anyway, way off topic here at the moment. But the point is... people are all different. They need to be different and be who they are to function well in life. Figuring out who we are, taking it to the limit, is our goal in life. How we get there, is very dependent on our passions, inner talents, help from others and lots of hard work/effort.

That's why I came (and have stayed) here. To express that passion for research, teaching, fact finding, communicating and helping others to be successful. This gives me a sense of community. Where do you think the moniker "Audio Evangelist" came from? Yep, a Salesman with a passion to see others learn and grow!

Are we growing and learning as a group and individually? I think so....

Pastor Swez (Car audio Evangelist) HAPPY
