Hi,
I have a Dawa DK5000 car stereo in my Nissan Sunny. As of late my tapes had not been running clearly so i tried to use a reugluar spray-type head cleaner.I sprayed it into the system and left it for a few minutes. On trying to play tapes the system keeps reversing the tapedirection perpetually. The normal fm part is working fne though. It is able to rewind and fast forward but trying to make it play siomply makes it perpetually reverse the direction of the tape.
Plz Help

honestly this may not be worth fixing i dont know much about tape decks but i think something i quite wrong with this one if it just keeps reversing the tape over and over. IMO for the 20-40$ to get another tape deck it may be worth just doing that. if your really wanting to fix you could probaly take it to a shop and someone could fix it. but alot of times this costs more then a new one.

maybe someone else well have a bit more diea whats actualy wrong but it sounds pretty much gone to me if it isnt playing the tape at all. like its stuck in that one mode .

Here's a link to what an auto reverse tape transport sustem looks like and how it operates.

http://www.bcae1.com/tapxprt.htm

What causes the reverse process here are 2 things.

1. The tape head pick up notes a special strip on each end to the tape (on wind up spools) that tells the player to switch from Side A to Side B programming.

2. Also, if the tape player mechanicals sense a binding or blank spot in the tape, it will signal the tape transport to change directions.

There are 2 drive rollers and capstans that are activated to drive the tape in A or B directions. In your case, the tape head or mechanicals are getting signals to change direction.

Try cleaning the pickup head with IPA (rubbing alcohol) and a Q-tip. Then clean the rollers and capstans as well. Finally, get a tape head demagnitizer and de-gauss the playback head. If none of these remedies correct your problem... time to get a new HU with tape and maybe a CD player as well.

Good luck,
Swez
