ok just sold a paintball gun and shivas to a friend....and have 900 for subs, amp, and box...what would you guys sudjest.....this is going to be in a 93 single cab chevy with a bench seat.....i want something that will be louder and get lower than the shivas i had....the last box i had in there was 6" deep at top, 9" deep at bottom, 59" wide, and 16" tall..so id like to stay with a box close to that...give or take a few Replies (9) A.D.D. on 06/2/2004 13:57:58 anyone wanna help? swez on 06/2/2004 17:43:53 Do you have any pics of the old sub enclosure used with the Shiva's? I really think one very strong sub and amp would do you well here. The trick is to fabricate an enclosure that maximizes the woofer performance and not minimize your leg room. Sub orientation is the key issue here as most HO subs are pretty deep with magnet structure and all. One sub I have seen, is very shallow in Depth. How well it performs, I do not know. It's made by Kole Audio. This one: http://www.justwoofers.com/Woofer_Pages/Kole/KOLE_MFW.htm DETAILS: The MFW Series of subwoofers are designed especially for those who want big sound in a little space. The flat, compact construction of the MFW's means less volume displacement by the speaker itself, allowing these speakers to operate in spaces as small as 1.0 cubic feet, with a flat response down to around 35 Hz, and delivering tremendous punch from a sealed enclosure. It doesn't get any better than this. Specs: Kole Audio MFW-12 $120.00/ea., $230.00/pr. 1000 Watts MAX Power • 500 Watts RMS Power • 200oz. Magnet • 2.5-inch Voice Coil • Fs: 30.45 Hz • Vas: 1.567 Ft3 • Qts: 0.517 • Xmax: 0.354" (9.0mm) • SPL: 91dB • Recommended Enclosure: 1.2 Ft3 Sealed I have requested technical data on this sub from Kole. They are a division of SPL, Inc. and under the Corporate umbrella of Power Acoustik. I want to know the 'Depth' of the sub and how they arrive at SPL output of 91 dB. Let's see how well they respond to this inquiry. That will tell a lot about Kole Technical Upport and savvy. Will keep you posted, Swez PS My educated best-guess, after doing some rough calculations, are that a dual sub with 1000 watts RMS will produce mid 130's dB of SPL in your PU. Cabin gain in a PU of your design is roughly +17dB of cabin gain bass boost effect. That is the lowest gain factor increase of any typical vehicle install. This is one of the reasons the Shivas SPL may not have been where you wanted it . The single cab PU is a very hard vehicle to get high SPL performance from. Big amps and long throw subs will do it... but making it all fit, is a major headache. Have a pair of SoundStream SPL10's in a sealed box now. Running them at 150 RMS/sub in a larger closed trunk Sedan application. SPL guestimates on this one are 134dB @ 300 RMS. If I went to 600 RMS, the SPL is now ~137dB. A.D.D. on 06/2/2004 20:47:17 i dont have pics...but if you want some i can try and get some....yea i wish i had more room to work with...makes it hard since most subs are too deep A.D.D. on 06/3/2004 12:48:56 so swez have you gotten any more info on the kole audio sub? swez on 06/3/2004 19:37:43 Yes, I got an e-mail today. 1. The depth is 4" 2. The SPL rating is 91dB @ 1w/1m 3. The X-max is 9.0mm one way These are rated at 500 RMS per sub, 4 ohm SVC's. Sealed enclosure only. Swez A.D.D. on 06/3/2004 19:41:34 you think they are worth a shot? since they are 120 a piece? swez on 06/3/2004 20:45:21 Dunno... have seen them on a google search for under $120.00 each. Some of the reviews I have seen are favorable as well. The only draw back I see here, short X-max. But that is one of the reasons for such a low "Depth" dimension. That is also why this sub has such a high SPL eff., number at 1 watt. Check around your area for a shop that may carry this model and hear how they sound. I would guess they are good for SPL applications, but marginal for SQ due to short X-max. May not be as clean as the Shivas... just louder. The only other option I can think of that will fit & might work very well... would be a grouping of JL 8W3v2's. Not a cheap option, but you know JL can do the job well. http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/pdfs/8W3v2_MAN.pdf Do you still have your JBL 600.1 amp? Swez A.D.D. on 06/3/2004 20:49:31 hmm...not sure if any shops around here carry kole audio....guess ill keep on searching A.D.D. on 06/6/2004 02:19:27 anybody else have and sudjestions Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
