I used to have nothing but Rockford Amps. (i had one Alpine V12) But I went on a limb and tried out Lanzar amps. (i sort of let my last rockford amp slip away in a relationship gone wrong) I have used and abused my lanzar 250 (tested ~2x510rms 2ohms-stereo) for almost a whole year on my 2 12" Audiobahn High Excursions... in my wanna be trunk of my camaro They have done quite well almost as well as my Rockford 500a2 (yes there is a noticable difference). It isnt power hungry at all and is quite stable given proper air flow. The cons of this particular amp is that it is not 2ohm stable mono. the connections are quite ancient. Prices: Rockford 500a2 $425 (friends discount) Lanzar250 $186 shipping included (ebay) and no this isnt a sales pitch or anything i used to post on the forum back when its was white and blue...hehe i actually found u all again. I just know many of you on a low budget like me are always in need of that review of the lesser known brand stuff thats cheap. Let me know any other lower priced amps that I can try out in the 1000rms range. HAPPY RTM Replies (1) Swez on 05/25/2003 10:03:02 Very interesting testimonial... thanks for sharing that experience. Did you have to add cooling fans to run this amp at 2 ohms? If I read this correctly, you are running this in 2 channel mode as well? Most 2 channel amps will do fine with 2 ohm loads this way. But when bridged to MONO, 4 ohms is the norm, unless a high current version. About other lesser known brands of amps, a good number of guys I know off another forum are opting for US Acoustics amps. These are very well made, rated power is at 12.9 volts (not 14.4 like some try to palm off) Have a look at the lineup: http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/us_acoustics.html The other amp many like for high output sub applications, are the JBL Powervalve series amps. Come in Class D MONO, 1 or 2 ohm stable, 150, 300, 600 and 1200 RMS @ 12.9 volts are the output ranges. The 600.1 and 1200.1 are the best bang for your buck in this wattage class and very reliable as well. Have a look here: http://ikesound.com/800.htm There's always Ebay for some lower prices, but the two sites I have referenced are reliable, honest and have very good prices too.
