Currently installing Pioneer Premier HU in a 98 Dodge Durango. The HU powers up, a cd can play, the tuner can be changed, all function work, EXCEPT there is no sound output. Now, I have read a previous post about the durango and have heard that there is an amp behind the passenger kickpanel. From the wiring harness and HU wires, how can I make a connection so that it works? I have a blue wire with a female connection on it, that is labeled "remote" and believe I have a "power antenna" wire left. ALso, there is a "mute" wire connected to the wire harness that Ive never seen before, but i did hook the two wires up. Or am I going to have to rewire all my speakers to bypass the amp? (I have installed new MTX speakers) Please help! Replies (8) pmpn8ez on 06/1/2004 15:18:57 Your blue wire out of the deck (remote or P. Cont) will be connected to the lead for your amp in your car wiring harness. Usually this is blue or blue with a white line. Dodge always changes their colors for some reason. Try that out. ttocs on 06/1/2004 23:39:51 yes, hook the blue/white on the deck to the pwr ant wire. Does it say infinity on the doors, or factory deck? dianam on 06/2/2004 06:48:59 It's an infinity system, or was. The speakers were infinity, so I assume the amp would be too. I owned a chrysler sebring with the same system, but did not have this problem, although it was a 96 as opposed to a 98. ttocs on 06/2/2004 11:15:22 Infinity does some funny stuff. Often the tweeter play off the deck pwr and just the woofer is amplified. First time installers will not recgonize that just the tweeters are playing(I don't know how they cannot notice, but i have seen it happen). When you connect the decks remote wire to the trucks pwr ant wire the sound should come on, but it may not sound fantastic.... I believe there is a bypass hrn for the vehicle, and if the sound is bad that will fix it. dianam on 06/7/2004 09:10:52 I connected it to the "remote" wire on the HU. Will this draw to much current from the HU and ruin the HU? pmpn8ez on 06/7/2004 18:09:42 Nope, that just goes to a relay telling the amp to turn on, there is another cable that the amp is getting the power to run from, the one from the HU just lets it turn on...make sense? So you got it working I take it? dianam on 06/7/2004 22:39:22 Yeah, it works, I saw the power source on the battery when I looked under the hood. Found the (small) amp behind the passenger kickplate, and said some obscenities....Then I took the stock cd player back out, connected up the the Pioneer, used the remote wire, and sound came out. Although, everytime you switch between radio and cd, you hear the amp turn off, then turn on... The amp, I see, just needed the signal to turn on, to say HEY!, accept current from the battery. Thanks for all the help. ttocs on 06/8/2004 12:38:44 I just remembered that sometimes the infinity systems do tend to draw alot of current on the remote wires. Hook the factory remote wire to the factory +12v switched and you will be fine. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
