hey have an 86 cutlass supreme, batt is 800 amps and 725 cold cranking amps. i had my altenator tested and it is putting out 15 volts which the guys at the auto parts store said is still in good shape. still have the prestige 500 4 channel amp (no serial or model) and the 2 12 sony xplod 1200 watt xs-l121p5. they said it could be electrical wiring prob but i already cheched that. any ideas on what it could be?

the volts your alternator put out isnt as important to how many amps its puting out. they are right 15volts sounds like it is runing fine. but if its a stock alternator it might not put out enough amps to power your system. in this case you well ned to upgrade to a high out put alternator

they said that the stock alternator is roughly putting out 90 amps a new one only puts out 94. there isn't an alternator that putss out more that would fit my car so what do i do?

i dont belive in that big of a car they dont make a bniger alternator then that. 94amps is a stock alternator yuo need to call around t6o shops that build and sell custom and high output alternators. i well call my friend whos dad owns an alterantor buisness and check and see what the biggest one possible for that car is. but i'm sure you cang et at least a 150amp alternator. i would assume from those 2 amps though you could pull up to 80amps at very high volume. and you need around 20-30 to power ac/heat lights etc. the amp number of 80amps is just a guess of how many amps they pull since you have no model number. it could be pulling more. like i said call around to some alternator shops in your town. they well be in the phone book. and i well do some looking for you as well.

is your car a 86? cutlass supreme? the site i went to only listed cutlass supremes back to 88 but it had older model cutlass's and cutlas siera's... also might check stinger they make high output alternators but are a bit pricey

wait, your battery is dying while you drive it, or when it sits? We cannot start to talk batteries until the current draw is fixed. It could be your deck, it could be anything. I would hook an amp meter up to the battery(in series) and start pulling fuses to see when the current draw drops. If you pull the radio fuse and the ampmeter drops then yes it is the radio. Does this make sence to you? I don't want to talk over your head.
