Sub Box Calculations...

This is going to sound like a silly questions but could someone give me a hand with my double checking my sub box calculations?

3/4" MDF with 1/2" indents on the left and right side.
L=14.25
W1=14.5
W2=11.25
H=14.25

The reason for two width dimensions is because it has a slanted back to the box.
My calculations:

L = 14.25" - 1.5"(mdf) - 1"(indents) = 11.75
W = 14.50" / 11.25 x 10 = 12.88 - 1.5(mdf) = 11.38
H = 14.25 - 1.5(mdf) = 12.75

11.75 x 11.38 x 12.75 = 1705 cu in (rounded off)
1705 / 1728 = approx 1 cu/ft

Does this look right?

Thanks,
Jay

Your measurements are very close. I have built many an enclosure and the one you are building will come out to approximately .986 cu feet. Very well done!

By the way, using those calculations you will have an angle of 12.85 degrees to cut on the top and bottom and side pieces to make it all fit. This is calculated by taking the inver tangent of the difference in the two widths divided by the heighth or (14.5 - 11.25) / 14.25.

Check out the following web site....

It's not the easiest to navigate but an excelelnt source once you get the hang of it. Look down the right side and you will see a tab at #110 titled "Basic Sub Enclosure Calculations". There is an excellent calculator you can use for just this purpose.

don't forget to account for the displacement of the sub itself
