Here it is again. What the hell is MDF? I'm guessing Medium Density Fiberboard... but... eh. http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com/html/adc/adc_install_lrg4.html?par=i6p3c4 http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com/html/adc/2003_civic/2003_civic.html uochronos on 05/29/2004 01:30:25 please no need for cussing we try to keep a clean board here. we know the posts get messed a bit when edited but we are quite used to reading them that way. as for your question yes MDF is medium density fiberboard. its the most common material used for sub boxes. this can be picked up at just about any building supply store for quite cheap. swez on 05/29/2004 15:09:05 Yep MDF is as noted. For most sub applications, 3/4" MDF is the preferred choice for a solid enclosure. It is durable, easy to cut and shape and a lot cheaper than Baltic Birch or high grade marine plywood. Yeah, others have mentioned editing messes with the final outcome of your post. We are looking into that issue, but it may take some time to get the bugs out. FYI, we offer a PG rated site and just don't see a need to use colorful language here. You are new and don't know that. This guy is a real cleaver artist. I don't think I would spend that kind of time money and effort in this type of install... ripping out the whole interior and all... but well done though. Swez aposynthesi on 06/1/2004 17:56:03 Sorry about the F bomb... :( As for the MDF... I was just wondering what it was, I didn't plan on modifying my car like that... Grand Marquis buddies... not worth it, although I may use it for a sub. ttocs on 06/1/2004 23:33:13 the grind up wood into a powder, and then use an adhesive to glue it back together, while under high pressure to form a sheet. ttocs on 06/1/2004 23:33:34 oh yea, don't get it wet. It will expand and then chip apart. aposynthesi on 06/3/2004 21:16:38 Now that I've got the MDF, I wanna be crafty like this guy. Where would I get the "stretchy speaker box carpet?" Follow the white rabbit... http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com/html/adc/adc_install_lrg4.html?par=i1p6c4 swez on 06/3/2004 21:40:47 Not sure about stretchy carpet... but can get a nice selection of sub covering materials at Home Depot. Can be found in the carpet and floor covering section of the store. This comes in a few basic colors, pretty wide roll as I recall too and not too expensive. Under $3.00 a yard as I recall. Also, you will want to do a dry fit over the enclsure, plan your seams and edges well and use Super 77 spray adhesive (3M) for sticking cloth to wood. Apply spray glue in a medium/light coat to both carpet and box. Wait a few minutes and then mate them together. Roll the carpet tight to wood with a laminate roller or even a large round can or a "jumbo beer" bottle will do nicely. Takes a little practice on the seams and corners... but you'll get the hang of it. Swez ttocs on 06/3/2004 22:04:19 go to a local shop and ask them where they get theirs. Check all the local trim shops. uochronos on 06/3/2004 23:14:15 cructch field and i belive partsexpress.com both sell the strechy carpet last time i asked.also for a sleaker look IMO you can sand the box primier and paint it. i personaly think it looks a little sleaker then carpet but carpet is a bit less work.
