hi! I have a question about tuning the JBL 180.2 amplifier for a pair of CDT ef-61 components. When the volume is low I get a little bit of distortion from myspeakers from about 1-5 on the volume. I am not sure what is causing this. I thought possibly the amplifier isn't tuned properly. Could someone direct me on how to tune the amp to the right frequencies? Try setting the gain sensitivity dial at midpoint (2.0 - 3.0 volts) and adjust til noise is minimal or gone, at low signal voltages from HU. Swez Munchiesyumm on 05/23/2004 22:21:39 thanks swezz.. The amp is hooked up the the Front Channel pre - out on a Panasonic Deck. I think it's 4v. I'll see if I can adjust the gain settings to fix the problem. swez on 05/24/2004 09:59:58 It may say 4 volts... but at low power (10-30%) of max., the HU voltage is much lower. Maybe 1 volt or so. Once you get closer to 70% of max., output.. the HU preout voltage will climb to the 4.0 volt rating. Just use your ears and set the amp gains (~2-3 volts) to a point where the noise is gone, but not so sensitive (1 volt or less) that too much power hits your Comps and burns them out.
