Wiring question..

May be a stupid question, but I just wanna be sure!

Just bought a Pioneer DEH-1600 for a commute car and I'm thinking of adding an amp and 2 tubes to it. Only thing is there is only one blue wire from the HU and I have the power antenna hooked up to it. Now my question: Where should I connect my ACC for the amp? To the HU instead of the power antenna or elsewhere? And if so where?

Thanks for your time.

Since you have a power antenna and only 1 blue lead, you'll have to run a switched REMote from the ACC/IGN terminal in the fuse panel or dash, install a manual switch if you like, and run that wire back to amp REM lug. (#16 wire is fine)

NOTE: Some like to use a light up switch so they know when the amp is getting power or not. The light goes on... amp is on. Light goes out, amp shuts off.

As for the power feed line to amp, comes off the +side of BAT to an inline fuse, then back to amp + power lead. Use a bare metal grounding point for the - termination of the amp.

Finally, what gage power wire to use depends on the amperage draw the sub amp will consume at full power. You can estimate power consumption based on the fuse(s) used on the amplifier.

25A., or less; #10 gage
25-50A., ; #8 gage
50A., or more; #4 gage

I have always just hooked the up to the same wire. never had any issues of customer complaints......

an amp and an antenna should not be too much of a draw but if your concerned use a relay..and always fuse the power wire. wire it as follows by the numbers on the relat
85-to stereo blue wire
86-to groung
30 to constant hot (fused)
87 to antenna and amp wire

I have used the up lead to REM power an amp. But with some of HU's, when you switch to CD or AUX audio sources, the antenna feed goes to "0" volts and the antenna will drop. It's a matter of tapping the right wire with +12 volts, when the HU is turned on.

The relay cuircuit is the most reliable choice and you won't have to worry about burning out the 12 volt REM circuit when using multiple amps. Most HU REM circuits only support 250-300mA of current before they fry. With a relay, you can pull 20-30A., off that line if needed.
