How does the US Acoustics 4065 compare to some of the alpine amps, like the MRP-F240, or the MRP-F200, or the MRP-320 which is a 5 channel amp for $178 http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_product_details.jsp?cid=1594 so if I did want to add a sub, I'd have the amp for it. Reid Replies (1) Swez on 05/22/2003 06:36:03 Alpine makes some nice products to be sure. However, if you read and understand the specs pages on each of the amps mentioned, Apline rates output power, based on 14.4 volts input power... not 12.5, 13.0 or even 13.5 volts. So when comparing actual output power, they are saying... you need more input power to reach the rated power than your car electrical system can consistantly deliver. No stock vehicle I know of, can produce a steady 14.4 volts from the charging system for more han a few minutes after a cold start. Once the battery is fully recharged, the output power from the ALT drops back to normal range... (13.0-13.5 volts typical) Basically, we are not comparing apple to apples when looking at Sony, Pioneer, Alpine and other such amps that rate their power output at 14.4 volts. They just cannot deliver the watts compared to an amp that states input power of 12.5, 12.9 0r 13.0 volts. Amps that do rate realistically, are the JBL series and US Acoutics... these makers rate their power @ 12.9 volts to reach stated output power. It's a cheezy way to confuse the less savvy buyer into thinking they are getting something they are not. Don't fall for that shell game! Amps that rate power @14.4 volts VS others that rate at 12.X input power, leave 15-20% of real power, not at your disposal. You need to know that there are a lot of deceptive marketing practices out there which lead the less experienced buying into thinking they are getting more than they actually pay for. Most don't understand this "gimmick" and wind up getting less than they expected or paid for. About 5 channel amps... there are some good ones out there, but the cost is generally higher, less sub power than most want and if one section of the amp fails, you are out of sound until the repairs are made. Also, no room to upgrade sub power , if you find the present sub amp is just not adequate to your future needs, Swez PS I "KNOW" your best deal is in the US Acoustics line.
