Installation Problem

I just installed my old Pioneer HU in my friends car like 4 days ago. Everything was workin fine but today after school he said his rear speakers were cuttin in and out when he hit a bump but when he moved the cd player they would work. So a loose speaker connection. But his fronts arent hooked up cuz the factory harness was cut, but that doesnt matter. But before i got there to check it out he had everything out. So now i checked everything and hooked the stuff back up and one speaker will play the music and the othere one will have a static sound. Its not the speaker cuz we switched it with the one thats workin. What could be the problem?

Get out your Ohmeter and check ohms on each speaker lead. They should read pretty close to 4 ohm. If well below that, speaker problem or wires to speaker may be damaged. If the Ohm reading is very high (above 500 ohms) something is wrong with wires or speaker.

As for the HU, you may wish to remove the HU and test each channel for output with a CD as your source of signal. If there are problems in the bench test, something has gone south in the HU.

what kind of connectors are you using? What are you doing with the front wires if they are not hooked up(front wires are tan and grey, and yellow and brown I think?)?

Well last night he hooked the HU up in his other car and all his speakers worked but they were very staticy he said. So how do i test the channels of the HU? Do i use a multimeter? Where using crimp connectors. They are just cut and not connected. Since we dont know what color the factory wires are for the front speakers.

make sure to insulate them. I assume it has static on the cd, and on radio right? Normally we have a small cheap speaker laying around that we will hook up to each output to see if it continues. Try wiggling the hrns's and see if you can get the static to come back.

Its from the HU since we tried it with 3 different speakers and had the same results. We get it the static on the cd we havent tried the radio though.

try moving the hrns around and see if you can repeat the sound. Could be as simple as a loose pin in the hrns.

Well my friend said the ground connecting to the HU harness kept on getting loose so that could be a problem. So he just ordered another harness from Pioneer for $15 so we'll see what happens when he gets it

what about a ground connection is costing $15? Are you ordering a new hrns?

You may be able to get a free one form a local shop that does many installs. They sometimes have them lying around and will give/sell them cheap and no waiting from Pioneer.
