its interesting to see some of the setups here. especially the gold metals compared to the others, looks like were all bargain hunters and some of the other guys like to fork out the dough, oh well, its all good either way, lots of nice stuff here. nice car by the way dflock, i wissh i had the money for a freakin wrx... or a 3000gt...or a 88 mustang 5.0... or a yeah, lol, im done..

Nice to see so many responses as well.

Yeah, I just got the WRX last week, and sooo much better than my Escort! 410 miles on it so far. Its a great car. I'll need all 75 Square Feet of that Brown Bread though. Man, each door doesn't even weight 3 pounds! Probably going to have some serious issues with rattle and vibration. The work will be worth it though.

Oh, and 150 Sq feet of Fat Mat Sound deadening. Everywhere.
( 150 dollars )

The whole entire system actually cost more, i have a couple box's laying around that i have for sale now, i didn't build these, they are from an earlier setup, that i just purchased, one is a Q-Logic, and the Other is the infamous SubZone Z box for a 12" sub. Box is 2.5cuft tuned to 31hz.

xplicitblitzboi on 06/1/2003 12:01:44
hey ilikebass, i've been checking out some of those onyx subs at ampmanaudio. how do u like them. they look pretty nice, i'd love to own a pair.

ILikeBass on 06/1/2003 12:42:05
Oh man, they are awsome. Very clean , very tight and have that Punch i was looking for, im not talking SPL im taking punch , you know that perfect blend of tightness and acuracy.

I had them in a 1.25cuft sealed each recieving 300-325w RMS each and it was awsome, clean tight accurate loud. I couldn't believe it. But now in having them in the 4cuft tuned to 32hz, WOW i can get as loud as i could ever want and it still sounds just as amazing as with the sealed, it's like i didn't even give anything up going with a 32hz tuning vs. the 24 i was thinking of going with.

In my opinion, yes they are better than the Brahma, and about affording them, well you can now.

Not sure if you are up on the new's but Ampmanaudio no longer sell's Onyx, Onyx has removed them from ampmanaudio and are now selling factory direct and are giving outragous discounts on the merchandise for a limited time when ordering direct from Onyx, almost makes me feel bad i didn't wait a little longer to get them. But again i said Almost ! cause i love the sub's.

Also with the Onyx's there is no possibility for Lead slap cause they are woven , the cones are very nice, they light up like crazy with a neon ( i don't have one but was using a friends for a little while at a club last week) I also really like the magnet boot, something i think Adire should have had, it's not expensive to do, but can make a world of difference, it still uses the Venenzuala cast basket, which i like.

xplicitblitzboi on 06/2/2003 13:57:17
like what kind of discounts? around how much are they going for?? i would love some more information as i am having to sell my subs right now, and would certainly like information on how to get new ones. :)

ILikeBass on 06/2/2003 16:55:53
Sure, here are the prices right from Onyx on my perticular subwoofer.

LS10v.2 - MSRP $279.99 - Direct Price $125.99 Shipped

I belive the 12" version is only 20 dollars more.
So as you can see the Price direct from Onyx for a limited time is probably the most amazing thing i have ever seen.

ILikeBass on 06/2/2003 16:58:34
i have the 12"s but the price factory direct isn't mentioned yet.

give them a call, Scott Messingal is awsome ( the owner of Onyx )
or e-mail him, he get's back to you pretty quick.

P.S. E-mail me if you want to know particulars, i can tell you all about them, and it would be nice to talk to someone about audio SMILE without getting that feeling that the other person doesn't care what you are saying. lol

xplicitblitzboi on 06/2/2003 18:17:41
of course, do you have aol instant messenger, that might be easier, and if you dont, what is your e-mail address? would scotts e-mail be on the website?

and i love talking about audio, no matter who its with. I get that feeling sometimes too, like no1 cares, lol, fun stuff.

thx

Panasonic CD HU that I replaced when my Pioneer bit the dust.
Pre-out to a California Malibu amp for the front and Kenwood for the rear. Both amps I bought used in 1992 for $20.
Front speakers are 6.75" Coustic separates with 1" soft tweets
Rear speakers are 6x9 3-way Eclipse.

Its starting to suck. All of this stuff was installed in 1996 along with a single Eclipse 10" sub, but I have since removed the sub. I plan on a nice setup one of these days, but it needs suspension and tranny work before I go spending cash on fun stuff.

I think the Coustic separates were $180
The Eclipse 6x9s were $160
Both amps were $20 total
Jigsaw blades to fit the 6.75" speakers in the door, $3
Wiring, junction block, fuse, etc, probably another $50
HU was probably $180 or so.

This is all a work in progress. The front and rear speakers and eclipse amp I have had in there for a while and am considering experimenting with some alpine type r 6 1/2 components and 6 1/2 coaxials that I have left over and possibly a more powerful amp to push them.
