dvc subs ?

i think i heard off here one time that u are not suposed to run a dvc sub off only one vc? i think this would be bad anyways thats y that make a svc version. i got into it the other day with a friend and i said u could not and he said u could. now i am just goin back and forth trying to figure it out? thanks

well he is right in the aspect you can and you are right in the aspect that it wont last very long when he does. pushing only one voice coil is going to cuase alot of stresses in the speaker and cuase it to act much differntly then when both are used together. i'm not sure the exact technical reasons but i know it wont last a long time hooked up with only one VC

There is a way to use a DVC with only one coil, but you will want to install a variable resistor on the coil not used. The "pot" will allow one to adjust the performance characteristics of the unusde coil to such a point that you can actually tune sub performance parameters by doing this. What happens, is the reverse EMS (Electromotive Force) parameters of the unused coil have to be countered by a passive resistance.

Adire Audio has some details on this tuning effect at their web site for reference. They call it RDO and it changes the Qts value of a DVC driver so it can be used as an SVC.
