I am trying to find a place to buy a relatively cheap SPL meter that is capable of reading up to at least 155-160 decibels. Does anyone know any good websites/dealers where I can find one? thank you. -Ian- Replies (5) Buffalo on 05/11/2004 08:05:19 Ian, I don't have an answer but I'm curious why you need one that reads so high. Severe pain results from anything over 130 and OSHA requires hearing protection for anything over about 100. I don't remember the exact number. Besides that I believe to measure in those ranges you are looking at some very sophisticated and VERY expensive equipment. In my business we have done noise attenuation studies on vapor ducting from turbofans and the rental on the equipment was in the neighberhood of $20k. Good Luck cybersailor420 on 05/11/2004 10:35:43 the reason i am looking for a decibel meter is because i am redoing my entire system this summer with the main goal entering an SPL competition in August. Yes those are high numbers, and i know that the pain threshold starts at 110 decibels. However, i was already breaking into the 140's last summer, at that was nothing compared to what i am hoping to do this summer. Hence, it would be nice to have a meter of my own so i can fine tune to reach the numbers i want. i know a typical one costs $1000+, but i am hoping to find a cheaper one, possibly used. thanx. -Ian- swez on 05/11/2004 12:47:35 Audio Control make a 160 dB model.
