which one of these would be suggested more they both get about the same result but seem to get it a bit differnt and i'm unfamilar with which would get better results i already have a audio control EQX equalizer/crossover so i lean towards the epicenter so its all built to work together but i want to get the best sound possible so i'm unsure. Replies (9) ttocs on 05/7/2004 16:14:41 from what I understand, they are two different beasts. The bass cube is a single band parametric eq. This means you will be able to set a target freq, and by adjusting the Q select the freqencies around the target freq, then add gain to that set of freq. I have never been real clear on the epecenter, from what I understand it adds an higher octave of bass to the signal. uochronos on 05/8/2004 02:52:38 ahh that helps a bit makes since since i already have the equalizer a audio control eqx wouldnt the bass cube just be redundant? since i could just adjust the frequencies on the eq? or am i missing a crucial point? ttocs on 05/8/2004 08:32:41 well yes and no. On the eq you can adj one freq. The bass cube will allow you to adj the specific freq that you want to boost. What more are you wanting from the system? swez on 05/8/2004 12:56:26 Most EQ's have a centering frequency and they cut/boost that, and some adjacent Hz., based on the "Q" of that circuit. On slider and dial type EQ's, the "Q" is generally fixed. Each slider on either side of it, will also effect the overall sound you get. Parametric EQ's, allow the user to select not only the center frequency, but also the slope of the bell curve ("Q" which is either a broad slope or a narrow peak in the bell curve) . This can be very useful for high impact bass in SPL Comps, cutting peaks out of an install or boosting certain fundemental frequencies for punch and definition. The Epicenter works on a digital reproduction of the bass note and digitally adds (upper and lower harmonics) to existing fundamental bass notes to produce a fuller, richer, deeper bass tones. The harmonics are normally there already, but the Epicenter just digitally enhances them for a more robust bass signal. NOTE: All music notes has very complex wave forms made up of the "fundamental" note (node) and usually odd harmonics. ( 1st, 3rd & 5th) These harmonics are important as they allow one to notice the distinct differences between a trumpet, a piano, a sax or guitar (gee-tar) all playing the same note. Such as a 440 Hz "A" note. Now, the question is... can you use your present EQX to get the kind of bass you desire? The EQX has 6 Bass control knobs centered at 31.5 Hz, 45 Hz, 63 Hz, 90 Hz, 125v Hz and 180 Hz. The LPF is factory set at 90 Hz. By adjusting the lower 3 bands, you can change the deep bass performance. The latter 3 bands are more for midbass punch. The rest of the EQ is for mids and highs to be shaped as desired. Use as little boost (+3-6dB is plenty) as possible and cut adjacent frequencies to prevent clipping the preamp circuits that feed you amps. If that is not enough bass control for you or diving into the rear to adjust them is not your plan, the Epicenter gives hands on control of low bass, right at your dash panel. Hope that helps, Swez uochronos on 05/8/2004 14:26:32 thanks guys helped alot. i'm not looking to improve anything right nwo ttocs just wanting to knwo the differnce between the 2 because while i was buying the EQX the guy at the shop kept trying to sell me an epoicenter for like 40$(was missing a few parts such as power harness and bass knob) and he insisted it made a huge differnce so i got curious to how much it would help then i remember the bass cube and wanted to know if i ever got one which would help more for my [particular tastes and i think the epicenter would for me from the info i have go so far its more of an sq thing then the bass cube and thats what i want swez on 05/8/2004 20:43:47 If you do get that Epicenter with a few missing pieces, can contact AC and am sure they can get you the parts you need at a nominal fee. You can DL the owners manual off the AC site so you know how to use it as well. A $40.00 deal is very good for this product... if it works with a few extra parts. Swez uochronos on 05/9/2004 02:28:19 its brand new just it was a display model so it lost the pe3ices. maybe i well p-ick it up ttocs on 05/9/2004 11:11:19 sounds like he is trying to get rid of dead stock. uochronos on 05/9/2004 11:58:14 the place i closing infact its a liquidation company seling the stuff. alot of good deals if you want to take the time to haggle them down hehe.
