Replies (7) compvr15s on 05/6/2004 16:33:18 for the speakers do you think it would be a good idea to run a set of 6.5 cdt comps in the front and then just a cdt midbass/midrange in the rear? that should sound really clear and loud. he said he likes more mids than highs, he likes loud vocals. think for now he is going to run the speakers off of the HU or maybe the fronts off of an amp he has and the rears off of the HU. or what would be a good setup swez on 05/6/2004 17:41:28 Alpine has a few HO units that put out ~27 RMS x 4. That's better than stock units that do ~15 watts x 4. CDT Comps or MA Audio has a nice set of Comps for ~$80.00 off Zeb as well. He will definitely want good tweeters as this is what brings up the vocals. http://www.thezeb.com/ (main page) The Comps really do need to amped to get the best performance from them. The rear speakers can be amped or run off the HU amps. A 6.5" coaxial may well fit in the rear with some minor mods. But some careful shopping can chop that price a bit. They type S series speakers are around 40w RMS and can handle up to 200w. A perfect choice for now, plus leaving the option open to add an amplifier later without having to upgrade mids/highs. The one thing I like about Alpine is that even their cheapest HU has 3 pair of RCA outs and a cooling fan on the HU. That is saying alot for the company....no shortcuts on quality. With the $200 HU, and $200-$240 on the speakers, I am sure he could talk anyone down to $500 even for everything installed. swez on 05/7/2004 10:54:20 Good input Kit... only buy what he thinks he will use or need. The CDT CL-61a are the deep discount Comps at Zeb. The paint color was off, so CDT is blowing them out. About adding a 4 channel... yes it will work in Tri-mode. Meaning, front Comps are full range off channels 1 & 2. The rear channels can be bridged for sub applications. The main thing, when you bridge the amp this way, must use a 4 ohm sub load. The rear speakers can be run off the rear channel HU amps. As for choices on rear speakers... if using the HU only to power them, no need to go crazy on high powered speakers. Can use full range Coaxials or midbass drivers only. A personal choice based on hi preferences. Finally, many prefer silk or soft dome tweeters for smooth, natural sound. Metal domes can be a bit bright or harsh and sound very un-natural. But for rock and high energy music, metal dome tweets will cut through the bass well. Swez ttocs on 05/7/2004 16:17:43 if you want a high quality alpine HU for a descent price, I know a guy selling a 7949. This was their flagship model a few years back and is still a great deck. It doesn't do mp3's, but is a great sq deck. You would need a seperate amp however, it is a dead head....... Do you have the speakers in the dash and the doors? compvr15s on 05/7/2004 21:53:05 im not sure, i thought all of them mustangs has dash/door/rear speakers.. he is going to go looking and listening to some speakers and HUs this weekend, i told him to pick a few that he likes then ill see what kinda prices i can get him for them things off the net. probably 50% less than retail stores. thanx for all the input, any other suggestions or comments would be great as well.
