this is while the car is running?

Ground loop problems will cause this hum as will open grounds at RCA's at either the amp end or HU end. When you take RCA preouts from amp and run them to AUX inputs of HU, you have a better ground path and noise goes away.

Is the HU grounded to floor pan or harness ground? Bett make sure HU is grounded to floor pan.

im not sure where it is grounded, i think on my steering wheel, although i did not install this reciever myself. I changed the rca's still with noise and humming, whats causing it to ground loop? im still kinda leaning towards my rem wire grounding out, from when i touched it and my ground wire together, b/c this didn't start happening untill that happened. oh ya, and this is while the truck is off....

Ground loops can come in the form of hum, buzz, alt whine, ticking noises in the speakers.

What it is, ground on amps have one ground reference value and the HU or other audio devices in the chain have a different ground potential. These differences in value, cause noise.

To correct this issue, can either use ground loop isolator tranformer or ground all audio gear to common ground... usually the floor pan is a safe bet. If there is still noise after doing all grounds to pan, move one ground to a new location until noise is gone.

PS Make sure your grounding surfaces are BARE METAL CONNECTIONS !!! Use wire connectors of proper gage and size for power lines.... not bare wire wrapped around a screw or bolt.

hey.....just because im from texas doesn't mean i hillbilly rig everything, now ducktape, thats a different story, if you cant fix it with ducktape and wd-40.......it can't be fixed.

Hey... I like Texans! A real do it your own way place.

About the Ducktape and WD-40... we are on the same page except when it come to car audio installs. Ducktape gets soft in the heat and may not stick well in that local.

My comments: "If it ain't broke... you ain't tryin hard enough" !!!

Find that HU ground and move it to floor pan OK...
