particulary the kx series. I am going to get one(i think) to power my infinity kappa perfect 12's and i want to know if maybe there is a better amp out there, within the same price range of the 850.2

The Kappas you have in mind... are they 4 ohm SVC or 4+4 DVCs?

The KX 850.2 can do 450 RMS at 2 ohms in stereo, 225 RMS @ 4 ohms in stereo or 850 RMS when bridged MONO into a 4 ohm load.
Not a bad amp... but you're looking at ~$600.00 for this amp... unless you have inside contacts.

http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/KIC04KX8502 ($649.00)

The JBL BP-1200.1 is a class D Mono amp. Nets >1200 RMS into 1 or 2 ohm loads and can be had for ~$300.00 off the net.

http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/JBLBP12001 ($299.00)

Both amps are fused at 120A. But the Kicker is Class A/B and is muc less efficient with power input VS watts out to your subs. (eff: ~60%)

The JBL is 90% efficiency, has almost 400 RMS more power in your hands and cost about $350.00 less.

Tough choice huh?

the subs i am looking at are SVC and @ 120 a peice, thats not bad. Although I think, he can give me the DVC's for under 350 for both. As far as the amps, the kicker is $280.00 from a friend of mine who runs stereo-fx in Houston. I'm sure i could get the JBL amp for less, but The kappa perfect subs only handle 350 RMS how is the JBL amp going to work with that? and have you ever heard of planet audio? are their amps any good?br

asplundher on 04/22/2004 21:59:39
The JBL 600.1 should work better and and goes for about $219.

Tinker18 on 04/22/2004 22:09:39
yeah, except you are forgetting one thing.... I need A 2 CHANNEL AMP. not a mono amp. I need a two channel amp that puts out 300 or close @ 4 ohms. for cheaper than the kx850.2 but just as good.

Buickman94 on 04/22/2004 22:15:27
Why do you need a 2 channel amp?

Tinker18 on 04/22/2004 22:17:48
because i am using 2 subs.

Buickman94 on 04/22/2004 22:27:19
You dont need a 2 channel amp for 2 subs. A mono amp can run multipule subs, depending on the impedence. The JBL 600.1 would work well here. 2 4ohm svc subs will net a 2ohm load at the amp. The 600.1 puts out 600watts at 1 or 2 ohms, giving each sub 300watts RMS.

Tinker18 on 04/22/2004 22:34:23
ok but i dont know how to wire that. and are you sure about that, because otherwise, its a waste of money. Thanks for helping man, i need it.

Buickman94 on 04/22/2004 22:36:56
Yes im 100% sure mono amps can run more then 1 sub. JBL amps have more then 1 set of imputs to make wiring easier, but they are internally brigged. All you need to do is wire each sub to one set of imputs on the amp. this is assuming your subs are SVC 4ohm and 350RMS each.

swez on 04/23/2004 07:25:23
Buick is sure... so am I. The JBL 600.1 will do just fine. It also had 2 sets of wire terminals so you can wire 1 sub to each terminal... just like using a 2 channel amp, but much more efficient than a 2 channel (Class A/B) amp.

If unsure, read up on this technology so you "KNOW" what to get and "WHY". There are so many resources out there... but if you just read some of the older posts here, you will find plenty of background info to hone your skills on this subject.

thanks swez, this site has helped me out a lot in understanding all this, and i greatly appreciate all of yall's help in these matters.

ok one more question do i go with the JBL 1200.1 or the 600.1 for the SVC 4 ohm Kappas? Swez, why did you suggest the 1200.1, wouldn't that be too much RMS wattage for my 350 watt rms each kappas? Thanks for the help.br

swez on 04/23/2004 19:52:05
The JBL 600.1 is a good fit for these subs as they are rated at 350 RMS per each. I was thinking against your original post of that Kx-850.2 amp which has a bit higher power rating. But now that we have examined your subs, 300+/sub is plenty for these subs.

The 1200.1 would be a good choice as well.. but since you lack experience in proper set up at the moment, I hesitate to put that much power into your hands.

It's like shooting... a .357, not too hard to control and hit the target. But if you tried a .357 Magnum your first time out... it could get away from you and hurt somebody. Big difference in fire power for both cases. I hope the analogy makes sense.

Having power is one thing, knowing how to use it... is another.

Thanks swez, then i'll definitley be going with the 600.1 for those kappas. the minimal sealed enclosure size is 1 cu ft, will it lessen the sound if my sub box is only 1.2 cu foot per chamber? also, will you read my amp input sensitivity issue post? thanks again. I heard from one of my friends today who has had a system in his truck since he was born probably, and he says that JBL isn't that great. I'm kinda torn here, is that just a personal preference of his or does he not know what he's talking about?br

Buickman94 on 04/23/2004 21:55:33
What does he mean by "isnt that great?" Is he talking about power output, sound quality, features?

Tinker18 on 04/23/2004 22:18:34
quality of the sound

uochronos on 04/24/2004 05:08:55
quality of sound wise jbl is good the only place this particular amp may lack is features it doesnt have a ton of liittle feature on it its just a simple potent amp... your friend who doesnt like jbl should take a look at all the differnt audio gear they mak home, car, theater, etc. they havent been in buisness for well longer then i know because they sell crap. your friend probaly has a personaly prefernce against them but thats probaly do to hearing one of there subs which arnt the best but they are by no means crap either.

Tinker18 on 04/24/2004 11:26:38
thanks for your help uochronos, i think i am going to go with the amp anyway. i turst the guy, and i would let him install my audio is why i was asking but, i think majorty rules on this one, lots of people have told me how good they are, and a guy who got one and hooked it up said it sounded awesome, which is enough proff for me. Thanks again for all your help.
