Am I damaging my subs?

When I first got the subs, I could only turn the gain up just above the halfway point. But I had to turn the bass boost on the amp at least 10 to 12 db's. Now I can turn the gain a little bit more on the amp now. When I do this I can only turn the bass boost to about 3 db's and now I dont get the same booming bass anymore. I have two HZ12 Zeus's running on a Hifonics Brutus 1000D. I also got the subs in a sealed enclosure, but the box was specified for two MTX4000 12's. I went to Hifonics website and it just says that I can use a small sealed or vented enclosure. I friend has got a box built for two 12 Alpine SWR's, I think I will try this because both or our subs are closely rated the same in rms. I guess my question is am I damaging my speakers because my box is too small? Also, my deck is a Panasonic CQ-H1083U "Ghostface". I think this should be enough info, please help me.....

your gain should match the output of your head unit you should not turn it higher then your head unit or you can/will damage your speakers tell us what your head unit is and we can tell you where your gain should be.

the head unit is a Panasonic CQ - H1083U Ghostface. And what do you think about the box situation?

If you go with too much bass boost to get more lows, this can really stress the amp and subs. A friend of mine had a set of Alpine 8710's in a small box and he actually tore the cone away from the spider on both subs. (overexcursion)

Here's something to guide you in your setup process:

I'll give it a try again and see what happens, but do you think if I lower my backseat so the subs can get more air space would I get more boomier bass so I can be heard? Or should I upgrade my amp or subs? what do u say swez?

I've been trying to look up the specs on this sub and cannot find any besides general descriptions. I'm thinking that perhaps it might not be in the proper volume. Can you give any detailed specs on this sub from any included paper work (qts, fs, vas, qes, etc...).

Here's Zeus website with specs:
http://www.maxxsonics.com/hifonics/speakers_zeussubs.html

The recommended enclosure size for power on these subs is 0.7 cf per sub. That's great for hard thumping, high wattage applications. This is a ported box recommendation using 2" port x 6" long per sub chamber.

Measure the external dimensions of your present enclosure and report back your numbers H, W & D. I will run some calulations and make further suggestions.

In the meantime, send an e-mail to HiFonics regarding box parameters that are acceptable for this sub series.

PS See if they can send you a copy of the operating manual for these subs and amp as well.

thanx for your help Swez and everyone else who helped.. Got another ? though. When try to tweak my HU to my amp gain should I take the SHDB (Super High Definition Bass) off ? And I heard that Hifonics was a really good back in the day. What do you think about them now and do you think I made a good purchase?... br

Any type of loudnesss features should be off. Bass and treble should be set to flat. Then after your gains and crossovers are properly set then you can proceed with the fine tuning.

I like Hifonics. They make very reputable products although they are a bit pricey. Then again as they say "You get what you pay for"!
