You told me a US Acoustics USB-600D was a good amp for my two 12" 500 watts max pioneer TSW34C model subwoofers. That amp is a 200Wx1 mono subwoofer amp. br200 watts RMSx1 at 4ohms and 300 wattsx1 at 2ohms.brI thought I needed a 2 channel amp for two subs. Doesn't mono mean 1 sub? brbrlet me give you an example of what I thought... I thought if you had a 400x 2 channel amp that meant you could run 2 subs at 200 watts each; so if I had a 400x 1 channel amp I would be running 1 sub at 400 watts. I was thinking I needed a 1000watt x 2 channel amp because 2 speakers at 500 watts max, 2channel + 500 watts = 1000 watts. Do you get what I'm saying???brbrI hope you understand because I'm starting to get confused. Please Help me understand. Your time and knowledge is very appreciated. Thank you Replies (4) uochronos on 04/20/2004 23:24:00 mono means it only has 1 channel but you can run 2 subs off one channel... the amp is a mono 1 channel amp that is stable at 2 ohms... you have two 4 ohm speakers if you wire them in pareellel which means this + from one sub to the + on the other sub to the positive on the amp. then you run the - from one sub to the - from the other sub and then to the - on the amp. and that nets you a 2 ohm load from the speakers to a 1 channel amp. you can use a 2 channel amp to power 2 subs also but they are much less effiecient and us alot mroe power to get the same loudness. hope this awnsered your questions if not let us know uochronos on 04/20/2004 23:26:41 also those speakers are 500watst max if you hooked a 500watt amp to one of them you would blow them the max wattage is only what it can take for a few seconds not constantly... these speakers can only handle 150watts each so a 300watt mono amp would be perfect for them. any amp that puts out 1000watts would most likly crush these subs quite quickly. i would go with the JBL 300.1 or us acoustics amp mentions you should be quite happy with it. swez on 04/21/2004 07:52:50 Agreed... what you seem to be getting hung up on, is the power ratings used in the car audio market. The "RMS" or "Continous" power rating in watts, is what really matters. The peak watts number is a much higher number, but that is only what the sub can take for a very brief amount of time. Amp ratings are similar... it's all about marketing to the unaware public in general. When matching gear... always look at the RMS ratings... not peak! About MONO vs STEREO... most guys are using MONO amps (Class D or Class T) for sub applications these days. You want your bass engine to run MONO. (meaning L+R signals are combined into 1 channel) The Class D amps are ~90% efficiency... whick means that for every 100 watts they consume, they return 90 watts output to subs. The only down side of Class D, is they have a limited frequency range. (typ: 20 - 500 Hz.) A 2 channel amp is usually classified as Class A/B. It offers high fidelity over the full audio range (20 - 20,000 Hz) but the efficiency rating of a typical Class A/B amp is 55 - 60%. Big difference in power consumption VS watts output to speakers. The 2 amps mentioned so far, a very good products at very reasonable prices. No need to go any larger with the sub amp as you run the risk of sending your cones out the back window. Not a pretty site. Swez jrodk2124 on 04/21/2004 12:35:12 Thank you guys for your knowledge. You ( I ) learn something everyday! Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
