What Sub(s) should I buy with this amplifier?

I've got a 1992 Lincoln Continental with a Pioneer DEH-P7200 head unit, two Pioneer 6.5'' speakers up front, and two Pioneer 6x9" speakers in the rear. I've got them hooked up to a 5 channel Kicker IX405D amplifier that has the following numbers on the fifth channel.

Subwoofer Section
RMS Power (watts/channel)
290 watts@ 12.5V, 2§Ù mono,0.2% THD,
200 watts@ 12.5V, 4§Ù mono, 0.2% THD
Dynamic Power (watts/channel)
275 watts@ 14.4V, 4§Ù mono, 0.085% THD,
390 watts@ 14.4V, 2§Ù mono, 0.2% THD,

Anyone have any advice as to what would be the best choice of subwoofer numbers\sizes\brands? So far I've been told I would do best to go with one Kicker CVR 12" sub, or possibly two Kicker Comp 12''. This suggestion was made by the local audio shop I had install my speakers in the doors. (I hate taking off door panels. It's a pain in the rear.)

Thanks

Amen to the door panels thing... they can be a pain!

As for the sub, you'll want a Dual coil sub (4+4) for this application. A Kicker Comp VR will work as will Alpine, Infinity, JBL or other brand that suits your budget. It should be 2 ohms when wired to the sub amp and somewhere close to 250-300 watts RMS rated.

With this amount of power, no need at all for more than 1 x 12" . The enclosure can be sealed or ported as you wish, but stay within the spec parameters of the sub maker. Use #12 gage wire from the amp to sub if under 10 feet distance.

PS Here's a link to a variety of subs at better than average prices. Snoop around for one you like...

Thanks for the help. I never quite trust the suggestions of people who might make cash off of me if I follow their advice.

Thanks for the help!

Don't go too deep in that philosophy as there are many fine people out there to lead and guide us into key decisions, whether they make a buck or not. If you needed legal advice, you'd consult an attorney. If you needed financial advice, you pay a CPA.... etc.

BTW... am a salesman by trade (20 years +) People depend on good judgement, accurate information and a fair price for services rendered. Tried selling Car Audio once, at a retail level and hated it.

I saw so much BS going on in the store to make a sale (a commission) and I just said.... if this is how this game is played... I'm outta here. Many lacked integrity, product knowledge and did not consider the best options for the customers' needs or budget. They only saw the commission they would get the following week.

Internet sales are better in many ways as you have the opportunity to get unbiased opinions. Then shop at your pace and go from there. CK does not sell anything... it's free to all who come and ask for help.
Enjoy and learn from the pool of information available from the team.

I decided to go with the Kicker Comp VR 12'' since I already have the kicker amp. I like things to match. I got one for 70.00 off of ebay in a factory sealed box (I hope). After the 27.00 shipping I think I still got a deal.

Anyone have suggestions on a box for this? I am thinking a small sealed box would work nicely.

The recommended sealed box range is 1.0 - 4.6 cf (internally per sub) The larger the box, the more deep bass you will get. If you move to the small side of the spec, less deep bass but will handle more power.

Personally, I'd go midpoint of say 2.0 - 2.5cf on this one.
