I have a Pioneer DEH-P7200 Head Unit and everything seems to work great with it, except for one problem. I had it about a year and then the display would begin 'inverting.' By inverting I mean the dark areas would switch with the lit areas. If I push any buttons on the Head Unit itself, the colors will revert back to the original form. It originally only did it once or twice and then would stop for a long time. It has recently begun doing this a lot and it's really annoying while driving at night. Anyone ever have this issue? Anyone ever figure out how to fix it? brThanks! Many removable face connects will tarnish over time and start action weird. A good cleaning is in order here. A Q-tip with rubbing alcohol may do it. If not, a clen pencil eraser will. Clean both halves of the unit and see what happens next. (dont turn on the radio while cleaning. The other possibility, is that the display itself is pooping out. If there are smokers in the car... the control buttons on the face plate can become coated and start to act flakey too. Not sure if this is something you can sevice yourself or farm it out. This sounds like one of those... Oh gee... the TV remote is not working right any more... NOW WHAT TO DO??? Honey... we need a new 52" plasma displat TV.... this 27" job just died.. GRIN Swez Myxptlyk on 04/17/2004 20:09:02 Thanks for the advice. No smokers, so that isn't an issue here. I tried it out and will check out how it acts over the next few days. I'll keep posted on this one... Hmm...If this does keep up, a new head unit may be in order...yeah...that sounds like a great idea...I saw this nifty one at the local audio shop the other day...it was only five hundred dollars...sounds like a necessary replacement to me.....yeah.... ttocs on 04/17/2004 20:23:43 we could probably find if for you for alot less then that, just to give you another reason........... Myxptlyk on 04/18/2004 15:24:57 Well, I tried the alcohol and the Q-Tip to no avail. Anyone else have any ideas? I'm hoping the display isn't dying on me! swez on 04/18/2004 21:12:45 Wonder if your face panel is not making a solid electrical connection with the mating half of the HU. Depending on the connectors used, they may just be a few mm's off and not getting a full connection. Is one side fixed pads and the other half is flex pins? If yes, try gently adjusting the pins for better contact. Kinda like a flashlight that has a flex tab or tang. When these get crushed or out of alignment, the light won't work properly. May be the same issue here. Swez cybersailor420 on 04/18/2004 22:19:47 hey. i have a pioneer deh-p9300. i've done this intentionally on mine before, so i'm assuming here that you can do the same on yours. you can probably find what i'm about to explain in the operating manual. while the unit is powered up (i.e. ignition is on), turn the cd player itself off. now it is either in demo mode, or it is completely off. on my cd player, i have buttons numbered 1-8. i hold button 1 for 2-3 seconds, and a menu comes up. in this menu, you should be able to find an option where you can change the display scheme. otherwise, look through the menus while the cd player is on, maybe you will find this option there, since it is a different model. best bet is to look through the manual for something like this. hope this helps, good luck. -Ian- Myxptlyk on 04/19/2004 22:45:15 Well, I tried cleaning it with an eraser, the alcohol and q-tips and even using a straight pin to try to 'pop' the contacts out a little more so they could mate with the faceplate better. No luck on those. Also on the P7200 you use the function button to get into the menu, but it only lets you adjust the dimmer and brightness levels. I guess maybe the faceplate it just dying on me or it's some other unknown cause. I'll just wait it out and then buy something else when it finally does die off, unless I figure out how to fix it. Thanks for the help everyone, if anyone else has any other ideas, I'm open to suggestionsl. uochronos on 04/20/2004 00:59:19 i have a deh-p640 2 years old or so and they invert on purpose mine does it when a button is pushed and about every 2 minutes when its not touched as far as i know all the organic EL display pioneers do this. you can turn it off i belive but i have always liked it so have never tried. uochronos on 04/20/2004 01:01:51 err i dont know what just happened here but could someone delete all that except for one, walt? thanks sorry for that i dont know if my computer did somehting or it was a glitch on the page. swez on 04/20/2004 09:45:34 Deleted the duplicate posts for you Chronos... Myxptlyk, if you cannot get this HU issue resolved and elect to replace it, I would like to have a look at it to see if I can figure out what is going on with the display. If I get it working, can send it back to you for a spare. I only ask that you pay for any parts, a modest bench fee and shipping both ways. If I can figure it out, then will post findings on the board for others to learn from findings and return the HU to you. If that appeals to you, contact me via personal e-mail and we can discuss the options. I like these kinds of challenges and if I learn something that benefits you and the board.. all the better.
