I am trying to install a HU in the BMW but the original unit only had 1 wire per speaker, I am guessing there is an amp somewhere but can't seem to find it. Any help is appreciated.

Some older cars used only 1 speaker line to each speaker and the body was used as return/ground. Newer HU's use a floating ground system where you need 2 wires to each speaker.

Is that an old Blaupunkt HU in there now? If yes, it probably does not have any outbaord amps... just very weak amps in thier HUs.

Wait for a reply from "ttocks" on this one, as he is our Resident Install Guru. He'll have some ideas and how to overcome any potential snags in this install.

guessing that is a 325i right? the "i" means ,"I have an amp".

Have you cut the factory hrns yet? There should be a hrns for that car available at your local car stereo shop.

Yes it is an 325i and I finally found the amp in the trunk behind the liner. I spent about an hour with a meter trying to determine where the two wires on the left rear speaker went and am confused as ever now. That speaker has a yel/blk and a yel/brn wire. The amp in the trunk has 1 yel/blk that goes all the way to the HU but no yel/brn. At the head unit I found 2 yel/brn but neither of them seemed to be the one from the speaker lol. I didn't cut the harness, I like to evaluate everything pretty good before making a move, my move was to put it all back and contemplate paying someone to do it! Question for you though, if I get the harness/adaptor is there going to be 1 for the head unit and another for the plug where the amp is? I would assume that I have to unplug the amp, then make some new connections there also if I do this.
