There is a possibility that your car has factory Bose Head Unit with an external amp.
We are going to need a little more information about you existing HU.Does the HU say "Bose" on the face of it? Do the speaker covers say "Bose" on them? It would also help our research If the car has a model suffix like:S,SE,GT,etc.

Not to worry, you are @ the right site for help WE just need to do a little detective work for you first.

Sounds like you already have an aftermarket amp.For a sub?For internal speakers? You say you have RCA wires? Are they plugged into a box tied to speaker wire(Line-Out Converter) or are they just exposed? Was there an aftermarket HU already installed in this car?Sure sounds like it to me.

i dont have a amp.. im just trying to install my deck all the speakers and stuff are factory... see i had a JVC audio deck but last week somebody broke in my car and took.. so now the RCA wires and the colorful wires are just exposed attached to the black and white things with holes...

Unfortunetly there are people out there that would rather steal than work and nice looking HU's are hard for the thieves to pass up(I hate a thief).

IF I understand you correctly, the "black and white things with holes" are your factory wire harness. You will need to buy an aftermarket wire harness to plug into factory harness of the car .
After you buy the wire harness(I found this one on the net.Copy this link and paste it to your browser and you will get an idea of what you are buying: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=12414) you will have to splice the new wire harness
adapter to your HU.Most good adapters have the wire function writen on them(i.e. right front +, left front -,constant,dimmer,etc.)
and most colors of the harness will usually match the colors of the HU.
When you splice the wire together, its easier to crimp,in my opinion, and faster.DO NOT plug the adapter harness in until all connections are made because your cars factory harness has constant voltage which you could discharge. Also, its better to run ground (black wire) to a good grounding source, not to the cars wire harness. You could find a spot on the body of the car(floor pan)and use #6 self tapping screw.Just sand the area you wish to use as to remove the paint or find a nut or bolt that you could loosen and clean on the floor or fire wall.

If you need a step by step on what to do then come back after you get the harness and i will walk you through it but I think after you get the harness you will understand the concept.

I dont know why you would have RCA cables if you dont or never had an amp.Has there ever been an amp in this car?Just trying to make since of it.

If you need more help just ask and make sure that you take your time, dont get in a hurry!

ok i got the adapter!! how to connect it to the HU? ol i see the wires and how its color coded.. but what does splice mean

saintanddolphin on 04/20/2004 07:27:04
One entry found for splice.

Main Entry: 1splice
Pronunciation: 'splIs
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): spliced; splic·ing
Etymology: obsolete Dutch splissen; akin to Middle Dutch splitten to split
1 a : to unite (as two ropes) by interweaving the strands b : to unite (as lengths of magnetic tape) by lapping two ends together or by applying a piece that laps upon two ends and making fast
2 : to unite, link, or insert as if by splicing

OK, these are the electrical connections that will have to be made.
Memory (12 volt constant source)
Ignition (switched 12 volt source - goes on and off with the key)
Ground
Left Speaker +
Left Speaker -
Right Speaker +
Right Speaker -
Power Antenna Remote (if the vehicle has a power antenna)
Antenna

All of these connections should be made using butt connectors and an aftermarket wiring harness adapter You'll connect the new HU's wires to the adapter harness. This will allow you to make all connection while leaving the stock harness intact. Some vehicles require antenna adapters. If you have an older vehicle, it may have common grounded speakers. If you run new speaker wires, you'd connect the speaker output wires from the HU directly to the new speaker wires.

I am still wondering about the RCA wires.Did or do you have an amp?

You can have a look @ this page for an idea of what a crimp connection looks like.

The most common connector is the butt splice connector. It is generally a copper tube covered with a PVC insulator. The butt connector has a bell on each end. This makes it easier to insert the wire. The point where the bell tapers is where the actual copper conductor/connector begins on the inside. The black outline shows the approximate size of the copper tube inside the insulator. The middle of the tube has a 'stop' to prevent inserting the wire too far. The other end of the white wire is stripped the right amount. The amount of bare wire isn't real critical but it should ideally go to the center stop point and not allow any of the copper to show at the point where it enters the connector. You'll notice that the insulator is RED. This indicates that it is designed to accept a certain range of wire sizes. Red connectors are designed to accept wires between 22g and 18g. Blue connectors are for wire sizes 14g to 16g. Yellow connectors are for 12g to 10g. For larger wire sizes, the colors start over again but the difference in size is so significant that you'll never be confused on which wire a given color connector is to be used.

Take your time and if you have a doubt ask.
DO NOT plug the adapter harness in until all connections are made because your cars factory harness has constant voltage which you could discharge.

Im sorry if this isnt enough information but i have to go to work in a minute. You can do this.It just takes an understanding of your enviroment.

If you like you can wait on one of the Golds to go a little further.
Good Luck!

Am wondering if you might be well off getting a skilled installer to do this one for you. If this is a basic install of aftermarket HU and connecting to existing speakers, the cost is minimal. Call around and see what you find in your area.

Having the proper tools, knowledge on car electrical systems and qualified install techniques are all key to a job well done. This is not rocket science, but is also not like changing a tire either. It does take a degree of specific know how or you can mess up a lot of electrical circuits in the car if you don't get it right. That can be very costly to repair.

BTW... I hate thieves, liars and lawyers too. LOL
