Hey i'm a beginner at this stuff. If my head unit keep blowin its fuses, wot would be the most likely problem? (speakers werent hooked up at that point, only yellow red and ground)) Is it possible to get it looked at and fixed? wot does that usally cost? If the fuse in the back of the head unit is 10 amp then wot would the inline fuse have to be? (11 amp???) thanks

Fuses only blow for a few main reasons. Whick fuse is blowing... HU fuse, inline fuse or fuse panel?

1. Short in external electrical wiring (power to ground)

2. Inadequate fuse rating (too low)

3. Too much current draw on that circuit (tapped into a fuse panel circuit) that cannot handle additional devices

4. Internal short on the circuits inside the amp (PC board level problems)

Best to test the HU out of car first if used or chronic fuse blowing. Can tap power off a car battery and hook up a pair of speakers to outputs.

1. Red & Yellow wires to + terminal on battery
2. Black to - terminal
3. Test with CD/tape player only as no antenna for AM/FM is connected
4. Test front speaker channels first, then test rear channels

NOTE: When testing this way, always use an inline fuse on RED wire to HU. A 10A fuse is usually adequate unless this is a high output HU. Then use Mfg recommended fuse.

PS Bench testing a HU for repairs will cost ~$60.00 labor plust parts. Most repair shops do not do board level component replacements. They just get a new board. So, parts/labor costs could be higher than a NEW HU.
