Has anyone every used a gel cell or dry cell battery to power their amp? If so which one and did it work well? Did you have to buy a regulator for it? Replies (1) swez on 04/4/2004 12:08:41 Not sure I understand your question. Gel cells are very popular for primary and accessory applications. The typical lead/acid battery used in most OEM car applications are fine under the hood. But if you pull a battery into the vehicle cabin/trunk... DO NOT USE A LEAD/ACID BATTERY. These batteries outgas explosive hydrogen and this is a very dangerous practice unless a vented battery case is used. (contains the gasses and prevents potential fire or explosions) In car battery applications, use a Gel Cell style battery, but get a battery storage box anyway. WalMart, Auto Zone or Marine parts stores carry these. What do you mean by dry cell battery? The only dry cell batteries I can think of are flash light type batteries. Small 6 volt cells are available, but I have never seen rechargable ones that have any real usable current output. Depending on the amp you are using, a large CCA rated battery is needed. Comments? Swez PS Say more about your present amping system. If your ALT is not very strong, can upgrade to a HO version... but that subject can be covered after you explain your system now and issues that need to be resolved.
