I have a 94 Nissan Maxima GXE w/o Bose system. I am planning to upgrade the current system and would like to know which component and design best fit my needs. What I'm looking for in a system is exception clarity and a nice level of bass(nothing to excessive but not to light either) GRIN Currently I have 4X6 in the door and 6 1/2 in the rear. I would like to upgrade the rear to 6X9's if possible and may be a small amp....HELP!!! THINK Replies (6) swez on 04/3/2004 10:22:36 A better pair of 6.5 coaxials or Component speakers will help a lot for the rear stage segment. The 4x6" speakers up front are very limited to midrange and highs. If these are dash mounted, see if you have space in the door panels or consider kick panels with 6.5" Comps. (CDT CL-61a is the best value I know of for getting good bass from front and read stage speakers. Look here: http://www.thezeb.com/detail.aspx?ID=1083 As for a good amp, consider the US Acoustics USX (USB) 4085 4 channel amp. Not too expensive, high quality and 85+ watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms per channel. Plenty of power to run the CDT's Amp: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-4Eb84RjzkUY/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=120&I=235USB4085&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N U.S. acoustics USB-4085 (~$180.00 USD) 85W x 4 Car Amplifier Key Features: 85 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms 120 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms 240 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms 2-, 3-, or 4-channel output 4-ohm stable in bridged mode Tri-Way capable requires 8-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier variable high-pass crossovers (12-200 Hz, 12 dB/octave), front and rear channels variable low-pass crossovers (40-200 Hz, 24 dB/octave), front and rear channels preamp outputs with crossovers anti-thump circuit thermal, short-circuit, and power/ground reversal protection 16-7/8"W x 2-5/8"H x 9-5/8"D 3-year warranty If you have a stock HU now, would be best to use a quality Line out Converter (LOC) mounted near the HU. This adapts speaker level voltages to RCA line level voltages that are appropriate for amplifier inputs. Some models have variable output adjustments. This one will do nicely. GOOD Product ID: N-774 Category: Adaptor Products N-774 Description: The N-774 is a high quality four-channel OEM to aftermarket stereo adaptor that was designed to connect the speaker level output of a factory type deck into the pre-amp level of an equalizer, xover, or amplifier. The signal level can be adjusted from a maximum of 9.5 volts rms down to zero volts. This is a great feature for optimizing the S/N of system and a must for competition or demo systems. Turning the knob clockwise increses the signal level. At the amplifier/speaker we recommend a 1:3 gain structure for most systems. The N-774V features full transformer isolation with maximum useable signal level which means more signal and less noise. Price: $34.95 http://www.davidnavone.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=N-774V There ya go for just over $500.00, a first rate upgrade kit. If that price is out of your budget range, consider Infinity, Alpine or JBL coaxials. Cost a bit less, not the same quality results as CDT speakers, but that amp is a very good option and LOC too. Swez sztxzk13 on 04/3/2004 10:38:10 Thanks a lot.....I'm going to check those CDT out now! GRIN swez on 04/3/2004 10:55:47 Good... several guys here have ordered them and love em.
