hi, im new to this forum and i read some of swez's replies and u sound like u know what ur talkin about so im gonna see what ur opinion is on my matter.......i have a 1500watt power series rockfort amp and 1 HX2 12"...i have a civic hatchback and i was wondering what kind of box would you go with in a setup like mine? previously i had a custom flush system with 2 12" hx2's where my backseat was from the middle half of the car to the rear...it hit good sounded clean....i was getting 750watts to each speaker...hit good but not good enough...i think my problem was the small box area it had...so now im going down to 1 12, more airspace, and more power in 1 speaker...what kind of box do i need...i think thats my only problem Replies (2) compvr15s on 04/3/2004 07:10:58 are you lookin for the loudests bass possible? if so you will need to go ported, 4.0 cubic feet is the most this sub can handle ported so as long as you stay below that you will be fine, the power handling goes down when ported boxes are used so you wont be able to crank 1500 watts to it, ported it will probably only handle 600 to 750 watts. can easily damage if you over power it since xmax will be reached far easier in the ported setup, or you can go sealed just will a larger enclosure, then the power handling is normal, get good deep bass but will still be around -3dbs fromt the ported enclosure. ss filter is a must on ported subs will increase the life of the woofer, not familiar with that amp but it probably has one, if not you be purchesed online for a reasonable price. good luck swez on 04/3/2004 09:48:58 Agreed, if you port this sub, stay in the midrange size of the specs to keep power handling as high as possible. Can also use a 1.25 -1.50 cf sealed box to get more deep lows. What amp model # do you have now? Depending on this amp model, wiring a single sub may change to protect your sub from too much power. Say more on how it is wired now. (4+4 DVC right?) The Hx2 handles 500 watts RMS as I recall. But if you go to a larger sealed or ported enclosure, the power it will take to reach maximum output will drop as well. This is normal and a function of sub design in various enclosure styles.
