Ok i have a 97' Z71with about 1200$ worth of car audio stuff that'd i'd like to keep. Anyway i'm wonderin what a good car alarm would be for this truck. I'd like to get one with the remote start included and the lcd pager. I looking to spend about 250$ give or take a little bit. And is the lcd pager really worth it and do i have to hook up the starter kill if the alarm i get comes with one? I recently installed a autopage with all the options that you described. It was a pretty nice alarm, and the remote was cool. He dropped the remote 2 weeks after I put it in and the screen broke. He was lucky as he got it online, but the guy exchanged it. he paid 169+shipping for the alarm, and I charged him $50 to install it. That is a cheap rate for an alarm install, most places will not touch it for less then $120 for install. Also for the remote start you will need to bypass the passlock system, which will generally require a 555L, and another hour of labor. You can get a good alarm, possibly with remote start from any number of dealers for $250, but the lcd pager jumps the price up dramatically. You do not need to have the starter kill hooked up if car theft is not a big deal where you are. When I installed in Indiana, we would not hook them up. There was very little car theft there, and people would always leave their lights on, then call us screamming that the alarm was bad, and the car would not start. I did not mention it today, but an alarm is not for beginners, not even really for an intermediate installer to put in. Security can get complicated quickly and leave you with a vehicle that will not start. I am happy to try and help anyone that thinks they can do it, but it really should be left up to a pro...
