My friend got a JVC HU from a friend of his. He said it worked fine. But he installed it a couple of days ago and told me no noise was coming out of it. Today he said he checked it and the internal amp was blown. He doesnt really kno whats he doin when he comes to this stuff so im not sure if hes right. He installed it with the battery connected so i dont kno if he blew something. I told him to check the fuse on the HU. If the fuse ISNT blown what could be the problem and/or should we just junk it. Labor fees are about $50.00 + parts. These newer HU's are pretty complex inside and very small parts. If he tried to repair it himself, might end up in the trash. Or... save the cash he'd spend on the repairs and get a new HU. Have it installed by a Pro. Swez ttocs on 05/12/2003 15:34:45 does it turn on? ryan on 05/13/2003 21:34:02 yes it turns on Swez on 05/17/2003 15:39:58 What does it not do? Swez ryan on 05/17/2003 23:22:35 no sound comes out of the speakers but i think hes just goin to trash it and buy a new one Swez on 05/18/2003 07:38:02 Sounds like a plan.... Swez ttocs on 05/18/2003 23:27:19 alot of newer decks have a protection system in case the speaker wires become grounded. It automatically cuts the amp off to protect it. We would test for this by turning it on, and disconnection one speaker at a time. If the sound stayed off, we would reconnect it, and disconnect the other. Eventually when one speaker was disconnected, the others would start to play. That speaker had a short in it... You can also have it bench tested for a couple of bucks. Saves a boatload of time....
