I have a dodge shadow and i tryed installing a head unit with hot wirers and during installing my ground wire touch the yellow memory b+ wire.. the fuse didnt blow so i think it short circuited how do i go about fixing that? or if you think it might be another problem please tell me Replies (3) Swez on 05/10/2003 11:18:39 Did you use a OEM/Aftermarket conversion harness for your new HU? Hope so as this really does simplify the wiring process. As for the short circuit, if that is what you have, look for a blown fuse in your fuse panel. That fuse could be located under the dash or glove box, or even under the hood. Depends on the circuit you were working with. First, you have to identify what wires go where. The conversion harness will help a lot there. Basically, you have the following wires to identify: 1. Main power feed (Red) that comes off the fuse panel marked ACC/IGN 2. A main ground (Black) from HU to body ground (not a harness ground) 3. ILLUMINATION wire (Orange?) goes to panel lighting 4. Constant power lead (Yellow) to a wire that has power no matter what... this is station memory feed 5. Antenna/remote feeds (Blue or Blue w/strpe) out of HU to aux amps etc. 6. 4 pairs of speaker leads (4 differnt colors) out of HU That's about as far as I can take you on this one. Hopefully, you can attract ttocs' attention and he can give you additional details as help on this issue. Ttocs is our resident Master Installer. Do you have a 12 volt test light or a Multimeter? The 12 volt test light is real cheap at any Walmart (Auto) or a good auto parts store. (~ $3.00) Will have to probe each "hot" wire between ground and harness to insure there is power to each main feed line mentioned earlier. No need to probe the speaker lines. Also, make sure your ground wire is firmly anchored to a bare metal ground point. (floor pan is good) With a piece of coarse sandpaper, lift the carpet under the front foot well and sand a small spot (quarter sized) the drill a 1/8" pilot hole in center. Then attach an eye crimp connector to ground wire and drive in a self tapping sheet metal screw (#6 x 3/4") into the pilot hole. Then, attach that grounded lead, to your HU ground wire. A bonus.... this also becomes your grounding port for probe tests. Do you understand the process laid out here? Have to determine where there is and is not power into the HU harness. FYI: Unless you are a Pro, best not do electrical work while the battery is still connected to the system. Just lift the ground wire off the battery, do your work, double check your work, then reconnect the battery wire. Keep us posted on your progress, Swez PS Check your "Yellow" line fuse closely. It may be blown, but look OK... it happens... hope you did not blow the dash light fuse . Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
