My box with two 12" Audiobahn AW1200Q's was stolen about two months ago and I finally have enough money to get me some new subs. Question is do the Shivas sound as good as the Bahns in every way or is it just audiophiles who would notice the difference. I'm asking this 'cause the Bahns I had REALLY, and I mean REALLY kicked hard and DEEP. I haven't checked out the Bahns current prices but I bought the last ones for $129 in march of 2001. The Shivas go for $125 I believe. I know most of the replies I'll get will reccomend the Shivas. I really hope though that they pound as hard as the Bahns I had. My main concern is not only SQ but a mixture of both.

Bahn's do slam hard and are very efficient as well. It does not take a huge amp to get them rockin. These are mostly designed for SPL applications and still have good SQ.

Shiva's, on the other hand... are more of a high SQ sub. They do well with moderate SPL applications, but are designed more for people who like it loud... but very clean as well. (300 - 500 RMS is a good power range per sub)

You did not mention the enclosure design or dimensions you have available. What amp to drive them with is important as well. These are 8+8 DVC's. Also, the type of music you like best has some bearing in which subs will best suit your tastes.

I'm using a RF 550S Power Amp. It was doing a fabulous job on the Bahns but did get really hot after about 40 min. of being at full blast and usually shut down then for about 5 min. to cool down.
I had a fairly big sealed box about 16 inches on each side w/h/d.
I believe the internal volume was 1.5 Cu Ft. per side (approx.)
Will one shiva maybe be able to do the same job the two Bahns did?

That box is almost 2.0 cf internally. (depending on assembly and wood thickness) A bit large for a single Shiva as X-max will be reached at much lower power than 500 RMS. (below 35 Hz.)

That amp must be an older one? I cannot find that model in RF site. They used to have archives... but where? If this amp is >500 watts RMS when bridged, you may want to consider the Tempest 15" sub.

It handles more power, (750 watts) moves more air and pretty efficient with input power too. See specs in .pdf format: $150.00

The sub max diameter (outer lip) is 15.1875", But the cutout hole is 13.9375. Here, some careful measuring of the front panel is needed. If you are just there or a tad smaller, a trim ring might do the trick.

It specs a 2.0 cf min., sealed box, 32 oz. of poly fill. Also, this is an 8+8 DVC, so when wired parallel, this DVC nets 4 ohms. Perfect for a bridged 2 channel amp.

What do you think about a loud and gets low 15" sub?
