In putting a Pioneer deh-p5500mp in my '86 toyota camry. Well, I would put it in if it worked. It conected the reciever directly to the battery and it worked fine, hooked to the harnass wires though is a different story. I whipped out the trusty meter and found the yellow constant wire was at 12v untill I turn the key to ACC. When I do this I loose all power in the constant. Im sure this is the problem. Im about to put a car battery in the passenger seat to power my tunes. Please help.

Wrong wire for Constant lead. Need to find a connection where there is +12 volts at all times. Get out the meter and probe fuse panel for a BAT contact point... always on.

Battery in passenger compartment.. NEVER !!! Car batteries produce explosive hydrogen gasses when they are charging. The heavier the charge cycle, the more gasses the emit. If you had an accident, acid all over the interior and people in the car too.

Better to install a gel cell, Deep Cycle battery for amps and such in trunk. You can buy plastic enclosures for the battery that safely vent the gasses and provide a acid resistant barrier as well. Just be sure to mount it securely and fuse the line to amps.

Hey, I figured it out! I took Swez's hint about the fuses. Thing is I already checked what I thought was all the fuses. Apparently Toyota installed a "top secret" fuse compartment in my car.

Where did I think this was a gm?
