I was wondering what your guys opinion is on this probable set up. Rockford Fosgate 201s Punch Amp (600w Max, 275x RMS) with an 8ga wiring kit to run a 12" Kicker Comp VR (The new ones). Currently I have a 12" Alpine Type S and i was wondering if my amp would be able to run the Kicker nicely. And my box I have is a 1.15cu foot sealed box. Murph Replies (8) compvr15s on 03/10/2004 12:50:00 oh yea, you will be happyin with 275 to the 12, i know a guy who has 2 12 inch compvrs runnin off a kx400.1 so they only get about 200 watts and its really loud, and im runnin my 15 inch comp vrs with only about 350-400 watts. im not too fond of fosgate but all in all you should be very satisfied, the alpine will probably sound clearer but the comp vr should get louder. swez on 03/10/2004 18:07:16 Nope... cannot get full advantage from a single 4+4 DVC on a 2 channel amp. Need an SVC 4 ohm or DVC 2+2 ohm here. What is the full model number of that sub you have now? Swez Murph on 03/11/2004 09:13:03 The sub I have now is a SWS-1241 12" Alpine Type S. swez on 03/11/2004 09:37:55 What is your main concern about this sub? Not a bad sub, just low end version of Alpine's line. It should bark pretty good with 275 RMS when you bridge the amp. This sub is rated for 200 RMS, but it should be able to handle 275 if you don't over use bass boost features on the HU or amp. Swez Murph on 03/11/2004 13:50:54 My only concern with this sub is that it does not hit hard enough for me. When I went out and bought all my equipment I was trying to be concious about the money I was spending because I didn't want to spend too much. But I have got friends with JL and Cerwin-Vega subs and when I get in their car it makes my sub sound pathetic lol. I know its still got pretty decent bass but I want more! I should of just spent the extra bit of money in the begining because I know this is going to end up costing me even more in the end. I'm going to keep the set up I have now for a while, I've just been curious at what else is out there that isn't going to put into debt. Anyways any suggestions are appreciated, Thanks Murph swez on 03/11/2004 15:33:36 Well Murph... join the club. We all get the itch for better gear as we get deeper into car audio. You have a good amp, maybe best suited for driving your mid/highs at a later date. Just need some potent speakers to handle all the power is all. That sub/amp combo is good for SQ and moderate SPL, but to get more bang out of it, a more efficient sub (12-15") if you fit it in, will definitely help both now and later. If you want High SPL, not too concerned with SQ, Audiobahn is a good option for you. These are high efficiency subs that can take a lot of watts, depending on the series you choose. I don't know much about Kole products, but they seem to be very well prices and n ot shabby in looks or performance. The 12" is fine in a 1.0 cf sealed box and very good efficiency ratings too. http://www.justwoofers.com/Woofer_Pages/Kole/KOLE_MFW.htm Swez PS Anyone have any experience w/ Kole gear? cplkittle on 03/11/2004 20:22:40 Sounds like you may be doing more than minor upgrades in the future, I would recommend a 4gauge wiring kit and a distribution block.. just in case. I did an install yesterday at work with the new eclipse subs '04 models, two 10's. with a 600w sony explod amp, they sounded pretty darn good!! The subs retail at $120 each 200w RMS, 300w peak. might be another option for you. I personally like the sound of the alpine subs, maybe adding another sub would make you happy (doubles the volume). In this case I would recommend two 2 ohm DVC subs wired to 2ohms at the amp. swez on 03/11/2004 21:30:32 With this 2 channel amp, would need a pair of 4+4 DVC subs. Wire each sub in parallel, 1 sub per channel into a 2 ohm load stereo. That's the max watts you can get with this amp. If you bridged the amp to MONO, then wire each sub for series (8 ohms each) the both subs in parallel to amp. A 4 ohm net load is safe for RF amps. Swez PS Kit... dual 2 ohms subs will net 1,2 & 8 ohms loads, depending on wiring configuration. Not the right choices for his amp. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
