Question About JBL BP600.1

I recently installed a JBL BP600.1 MONO amp in a Ford F-150 and my question is this. Why does this amp have four RCA inputs if it's supposed to be a mono amp ? brI'm not sure now if it was front/rear or left/right, but it did have two sets. I just plugged my HU's Sub out into one set (again, not sure which one) and the sound was good. Will it however sound better if I get y rca adapters and plug into all four ? The other confusion came with the speaker outputs on the amp. Again why two sets. It had a left/right set. I just put together the plus and minus cables from the subs ( XTANT Z104 SUBS 4 ohm single voice coil,200 watt rms) and hooked them to the outside pos. and neg. speaker outs on the amp. Can someone who has experience with this amp please help me out with this confusion.

The 4 inputs allow blending of bass signals from all channels, to the sub output... Ie: LF + RF + RR + LR. This allows non-fade bass from all HU RCA's to go into amp. If you used them all, some do report more bass output as input voltage is a bit higher this way. But, the way you noted earlier is fine. Adjusting the gain control on the amp, to match the HU output voltage is best method to start with, than move gain to get highest output levels w/o distortion to subs. There is an FAQ on that process in our "read articles" section.

This amp has 2 sets of outputs to make it easy to wire dual or quad subs to the amp. These outputs are in parallel to each other and if you had a 4 ohm woofer on 1 set, added a 2nd 4 ohm woofer to other set, now... you have 2 ohms into the amp.

PS Read the manual carefully and all is explained in detail. If you do not have one, can get it off JBL web site: http://www.jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=BP600.1&ser=POS&cat=AMP

The JBL 1200.1 is the same way. If you use all 4 outputs you wont have to turn the gain up much and if u do it this way i would use a y adapter like u said. But if u just use the rear output u will have to turn the gain up alot to get the full effect as if u used all 4 outputs.

OK thanks for the info guys. Swez you really cleared that up 'cause I had my doubts about wiring the subs individually to each set of speaker outs. The fact that the outputs on the amp are in parallel makes sense. The guy whose truck I did the install in is away for the week though. I won't be able to fix my mistake until then. Will the fact that I wired the subs like this mess up the amp or the subs ? http://photos.yahoo.com/blacktallon2000

If you wired 1 sub to each terminal post, that is fine. If you wired the subs in the box and just had 2 wires to amp, no problem here either as both terminals (red) & (black) in parallel. Does not matter which are used as long as you have 1 Red, 1 Black.

The Y adapter would be a good addition. You'll need 2 sets of 1 female, 2 males. One adapter per RCA line into the amp, unless there is only 1 RCA out jack for sub out in HU. Then, leave as is.

ok thanks for the info. There are three sets of rca outs coming from the HU BTW. They are FRONT,REAR,REAR LINE
Don't know why they just don't call it SUB OUT.
But that one seemed to have more bass in it than the other two, so I just used that one. But I'll probably still add the Y-adapters to it and then listen to the results.
Thanks a bunch man. I was a little worried there that I might have wired it really wrong.
