Hey guys.. I know if i run the 1200.1 JBL at 1ohm..it'll run hot. Does anyone know how hot it will get? If on for a long time..will it eventually shut down? Another problem is I'll have this amp under a sealed plexiglass setup..which may inhibit it's ability to dissipate heat. Will this be ok? Should I buy a external cooling fan just to get the air circulating? If so I don't know what power source the fan would be hooked up to (i'll want the fan to be running only when the amp is actually on...the rest of my trunk neons are wired to the trunk dome light which only turns on when the trunk is opened) Perhaps the main power 4gauge wire from the battery to the amp? Thanks! Replies (2) swez on 03/9/2004 19:29:13 Normally, this amp will not get too warm, even with a 1 ohm load. I believe it has no cooling fans in it... convection cooling only. There are overheating detect circuits in this amp which will shut it off if amp gets too hot. Installing the amp in an enclosed case requires additional cooling. Many use 2 fans, one to pull in cool air, the other to exhaust warm air. The wires for the fans cannot be tapped off the incoming power feed wire as they will always be on. You'll need a separate 12 volt feed from dash to fans. Can use ACC/IGN source direct or switched manually by driver. Do fuse the fans as well.
