i installed 2 ts pioneer 4by 10s in my 86 monte carlo and im getting buzzing out of the right speaker.just want to make sure that maybe the polarity might be the problem as i just clipped the factory wires and installed them on the speaker.any other ideas.also i bought some 31/2 inch infinitys for the front and the right front speaker is not as loud as the left one.could these problems be related? could the polarity of the back speaker affect the front?im thinking maybe the factory reciever is bad too. any help would be greatly appreciated Replies (7) swez on 03/7/2004 13:16:57 Yeah, look for loose panels and trim on that noisy speaker. You may have not installed it flush and there could be a small gap causing the rattle or the cone is hitting something. All theses will cause a rattle. May have to remove it, test in free air and see if the speaker rattles outside its mounting location, If yes, defective speaker... Your HU may be part of the problem or the wires to speakers could be root cause of low volume from right side. Also look at how speaker terminals are placed in mounting hole. Sometimes they can short to metal and have low output. Tape will solve that as will readjusting the wire lugs on speaker. Swez ttocs on 03/7/2004 15:14:32 sometimes the speaker wires will rub aginst the come and make noise. Polarity will not make a difference though. charlie1200 on 03/7/2004 18:36:17 well i worked on it some more and the wires on my right front speaker was wrong.put the wires on right this time and the same thing happens [low volume] also the right rear speaker wasnt buzzing any more.checked all the things you said so im leaning towards the reciever being bad.is that possible? has anybody heard of this before?im pretty sure the the radios been worked on before as there is a couple of screws missing for the front reciever mount. cplkittle on 03/8/2004 00:50:48 If there are factory screws missing that probably means that there was an aftermarket radio in at one time, and the factory was stuck back in for the sale of the vehicle. I have done several reinstalls of factory units in the few days I have been back at the audio store. swez on 03/8/2004 13:40:58 The speaker volume difference could easily be the HU. The rattles in back are most likely mechanical in nature or a bad speaker. Swez charlie1200 on 03/8/2004 18:44:47 thanks for the imfo.this is a great site.im was more or less planning on buying a cd hu anyway.time to put that ratty cassette player to sleep lol.i want to go with something that has more power built into the unit that will make my newfound speakers sound better.ive been to circuit city and they got a deal that if you buy a cd player over $100 that theyll install it for free.i looked at them quick and it seems that a lot of them are of the 50 watt by 4s. i think that will liven up those speakers.anybody want to comment on thir cd players that are reasonably priced and work good? swez on 03/8/2004 19:55:54 That old OEM HU... take it out back and shoot it. Put it out of your miseries. LOL Seriously though, a stock OEM HU usually nets about 12-15 real watts per channel. Typical aftermarket units range between 10-27 real watts per channel. Real watts are measured in RMS power. Yes, they say 50 watts per channel, but that is peak watts... not real world power like RMS numbers. It's ok to buy a low cost aftermarket HU if it has a few needed features. One feature for future upgrades, are the use of RCA line outputs in the HU. These allow you to add amps to really kick up the power to interior speakers and add subs later if you wish. In the car audio game, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!! Yes, we can help you find true bargains of the better gear at low prices, but if you go cheap now, may be replacing that gear shortly as it will not satisfy. Now, you've bought twice and wasted your initial purchasing dollars that could have been used for better quality gear. Basically, I am asking you to make a wish list.... We can show many options that are proven performers at well below retail. Avoid CC & BB if you can. Go look & listen to what they have to get a base line of what you want, but don't bother asking too many questions of the sales staff. Many are new and greener than a pine tree. They don't have a lot of experience in system building and often mislead the customer with lots of myths and mis-information. ( not intentionally, but inadvertantly through lack of knowledge ) That knowledge can be found here as we have many skilled folks to help you along. Finally, read the articles and FAQ's as well as other posts. There is a lot of information covered by the Golds who are some pretty savvy installers, troubleshooters and technicals.
