Right now I am using 14ga. speaker wire. Would there be any benifit it going to 10ga. or even as low a 8ga.?

There would be a good bit of difference. I would recommend going ahead and using 8 gauge. we're only talking about 5-7' total right? Why not spend a dollar or 2 more?
Using a larger wire will give your speakers more power (less loss of power due to wire resistance) and at the same time, it will be up to par if you decide to upgrade to a larger amp.

12 gage is normal for low powered bass systems. But depending how long you feed wire from amp to sub is, #10-8 would be fine. That sub won't take too much more than 250RMS w/o cone breakup. So really, #10 is more than adequate.
