How do wire in 2ohm, 6ohm, 8ohm, etc, how do you wire in parallel and series? Replies (3) swez on 02/28/2004 10:47:56 Depends on the subs you have to install. Say more on that and we cn direct your efforts. Swez cplkittle on 02/28/2004 16:55:14 not given the subs you are wiring, here is the list of possibilities.. Series wiring.. Pos from amp to pos of VC1, neg of VC1 to pos of VC2, neg of VC2 to neg of amp. In this case, you add the resistance (ohms) of each voice coil to get the total load 2Ohm + 2Ohm = 4Ohms 3+3=6 4+4=8 and so on.. Parallel wiring.... Both + to + on amp, both - to - on amp. to figure ohmage, divide the ohms of the voice coils by the number of voice coils 2/2=1 3/2=1.5 4/2=2 got it? good, now let's go a step further. Say you have 2 4ohm DVC subs, and you are trying to get a 4 ohm load. There are two ways to do this. One way is to wire each sub in series giving you 8 ohms each, then wire the two 8 ohm speakers in parallel at the amp. This will bring you back to 4 ohms. The other way is to wire each speaker in parallel, then in series at the amp. This gives you 2 2ohm wired subs, in series giving you 4 ohms. If you had 3 4ohm DVC subs, you could wire each in series giving you 8 ohms a piece, then wire them all in parallel giving you 2.66 ohms. (8/3). alanjlamore on 02/28/2004 17:18:26 Here's a link to one of the many helpful articles that are made on this site: http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?t12 This explains a lot :) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
