I usually don't have a problem running wires but on my 1990 chevy lumina it doens't have anywhere on the front panel floor boards to bring the power wire (4gauge power wire for amp) through. I have it temporarily place between the door and under the hood that way but the car leaks when it rains! I was thinking about drilling a hole but how should I go about sealing this up? I was thinking some sort of rubber tubing to put around the out side so I could wedge it in there. My friend suggested silicone but thats a bad idea because if you ever want to remove the wiring. Can I get a heads up on what to watch out for? I have the wire currently ran on the left side (same side as battery) Maybe some you installers could give me an idea what you do with these problems? I thought it would be to make your own hole but is there another way? Probably the best thing to do is run it underneath the carpet where it won't be interfered by anything. As for coming from the battery I would go the firewall if there is an available hole with enough space. If you have to drill a hole you will need to watch out for any wires, hoses, and such. Then use a rubber grommet to seal out water, air, dirt, etc. The main thing is to take your time and map out the safest and shortest route for it first to help make the install safe and simpler. I'm sure others will give more helpful info. swez on 02/27/2004 12:58:14 More often than not, there are usually a few access points on the drivers side firewall. The gas pedal usually has a grommet through to engine and there may be some clear space near that cable to drill your hole, add a grommet, then pull in your wire. May be a tight fit... but make sure you know what is on the other side of the fire wall where you intend to drill. Worst case, have a shop do that phase for you. It might be worth a few bucks to have a Pro do this one. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
